Hi everyone,I went to see my doctor yesterday because the pain of my left side was sometimes too much to cope with and he said that it was diverticulitis again and he gave me patches of Fentanyl. Is somebody familiar with this medication? After reading all the info, I realized that it was not the kind of medicine I needed. I'm not familiar with this medication but the side effects sounds really bad and the only thing I would like to know from my doctor is to check where the problem is. I started to have a little bit of fever everyday and the left side is swelling badly reaching the back and the pain is bad but not everyday. He also ordered an ovaries test to rule out cancer there and a stool test. I already had a colonoscopy and the specialist told me that he wasn't able to go too far because of a lot of spasmes and he suggested me to start smoking again.(that was when I quit smoking, 3 years ago), I got also a gallbladder and stomach checks and of course there was nothing wrong except diverticulitis in the bowel. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.

I've never taken fentanyl, I wish I had some of those patches kicking around though. I guess fentanyl is a very strong synthetic opiate narcotic. Your doctor sounds pretty nice, I hope mine lets me try a trial run of codeine, if it comes to that. Anyhow, yea, fentanyl sounds like something you take while in pain.There's lots of info if you search for fentanyl on google. =]ben

Take it if you need it... but it probably causes constipation.good luck!ben

Sure wish I had some of those patches!! I also have fibromyalgia and they are commonly used to treat FM pain; however, my doc does not believe in the use of ANY pain meds to IBS/Chron's or FM!! Your doctor must be VERY liberal because Fentanyl is VERY STRONG!!

Ugh.. get a new doctor. Doctors who don't believe in pain medicine disgust me.Especially for chronic pain... I mean.. WE have to live in these bodies.ben

I have had Fentanyl injections for my last 2 colonoscopies. It seemed short acting and worked quite well for the pain. I did have a problem with it lowering my blood pressure on the last colonoscopy. Had to be kept for 3 hours before my system got back to normal.I wasn't aware that a patch was available.Jeff

I didn't try them yet because I don't have enough pain...I'm not eating a lot either and also I'm kind of affraid of all the side effects mentionned in the info. I'm not sure if it's for me..it says on the sheet that it's for continious pain and I don't feel the pain all the time but when it's there, you feel it big time.
