I am 31 year old. Up until about 3 1/2 years ago I had almost perfect health. I dont recall even going to the doctors once since leaving school. Very rarely had a day of work sick, 1 or 2 days a year at most. Things then started to go wrong, I had severe panic attacks, which I think were work related (my boss) and loss of my brother. I remember the first attack vividly as I did not know what was happening. I had a inner feeling of something horrible was going to happen to me, and the feeling just go stronger a stronger. I rushed to the doctors and had a panic attack outside. I was pale as a ghost for 3 weeks, feeling like I was only half in this world. Could not watch television especially the news, as any mention of death would start me of on a panic attack. It took six months to get over them, before I could return to work. The first day of work I had another attack, so I quit my job. I then found a new job in a different part of the county (which I Like) and moved there. I then started having different problems. I would have pains in my left side one day and right or middle near belly button the next. I would have diarrhea or hard stool. This would only occur 2-3 days a month at first, then it got more frequent 1-2 days every other week. I saw the doctor and he check me over and told me I had irritable bowel syndrome. He perscibed me peppermint oil capsules which did help the symptoms. While I was taking these I would wakeup in the middle of the night and start shaking for a hour or two. I put this down to the peppermint oil as when I stopped taking them these episodes dissapeared. I then stopped having problems with diarrhea or hard stool but the pains remained. They began to become more frequent, every week, then almost every day, then it was major relief when I didnt have them for half a day.Now I am suffering with lots of aches and pains, I have a perminent ache around my belly button. I have intermitent aches in side and lower back horizontally inline with my belly button. I have cases of trapped wind. I seem to have a perminent bad taste in my mouth and a white pastey coating on my tongue, only the circumference is a normal colour. I have a bloaty feeling below and around my belly button, above seems normal. I have had spells of shooting pains that originate from my upper ribs (left side) under my chest and shoot up into my chest. I have had needle like pain in too many places to mention. I have had aches in my chest. Allsort of little pains, hips, belly, lower middle back. I have had trouble sleeping as things seem worse then. I have shivers from time to time, and a lot of heat coming from my head and belly. I have the feeling of small bubbles popping, mainly around belly button but I have been getting them in my chest too. I have spells now were I lose my appetite for an morning or evening.Sorry for the long winded post but does all this seem like irritable bowel or could there be another cause?

Hi Chris,I have most of the same symptoms and I've been diagnosed with IBS.Sounds like you have IBS. Either that or you're the first 31-year old male to become menopausal.
IBS often doesn't stand alone. It's very complex and appears to be related to stress. The aches and pains could be related to fibromyalgia. Have you ever heard of the Affective Spectrum Syndrome? http://www.pendulum.org/archives/affect.html The original article about the same: http://www.frii.com/~parrot/affect.html Since you are a hypnotist, I am curious if you use it for yourself? Why don't you come to the UNC chat Tuesday evening this week? The topic will be IBS and the brain. Here's the link: http://www.med.unc.edu/wrkunits/2depts/med...idc/welcome.htm Here's a link to some general IBS info: http://www.med.unc.edu/medicine/fgidc/infofgd.htm And here is a link to another IBS board that contains a wealth of information: http://pub37.ezboard.com/birritablebowelsyndrome Hope some of this helps, Evie
