if you read the Atlantic article it's pretty clear--as clear as it could be 70+ years later--that JFK's initial condition was IBS-D, and that the steroid treatments he began receiving even before college led to his back problems and possibly even Addison's disease--but that at first, and persisting throughout his life, he had severe diarrhea, spasms, all the traditional markers for IBS-D.
