I waited about 7 months to see this dr. and it took 15 minutes. He tells me I don't need a colonoscopy and I have ibs. duh!! He didn't know that magnesium helped with constipation, I told him that I take about 600mg a day and it helps a lot and to maybe mention this to other patients who are constipated. He did a little rectal exam. While I was on the table and he examining me I thought I would tell a little joke because the doctor looked a little uptight, I said " this is just like seeing the vet" he had no reply so I repeated what I said and again no reply. I think this doctor is constipated. I think I informed him more about ibs that him informing me. You huys know way more about this ibs than any specialist. He told me to continue doing exactly what I'm doing. I told him that lactose bothered me, he asked if I had diarrhea when I enjested lactose and I told him I didn't . He says that I'm not lactose intolerant. I do get stomach bloat, pain when I take in lactose, so what the heck could this be? Any suggestions?

Jo Jo - he sounds like a real winner! I can't believe he didn't know that about magnesium. I don't always get D from lactose, but I get horrible cramps and tons of gas and gurgling. I call it lactose intolerance! My dear GI dr that I loved retired in 1999. I saw one of his partners and he was of no help whatsoever to me. The only advice he could offer me was don't drink milk. Duh. I haven't been back to see him since. I don't need to see him to tell me what I already know!

Sounds like you could have waited longer.
Doctors anymore in my opinion are a waste of MY time & MY money!
Do you take lactaid when you eat dairy products? I do and it helps alot! Some people say it dont help them to much but we are all different.I dont think we need doctors for ibs. We have to become our own doctors and live with it the best we can.goodluck, amygurl

jo-jo...your experience reminded me of a similar experience I had with a gastro doc several years back. They all seem to have been stripped of all personality and emotion...plus if there is one thing they hate, its you coming in there and telling them ANYTHING about their specialty. Never forget..they know everything there is to know about gastroenterology..and you (the patient) are an idiot. A whining, confabulating blob of mush. I decided long ago to eliminate one and all physicians and caretakers who had that attitude. My current gastro doc is great..she is receptive to my information and believes that an informed patient is an attribute to enhanced care..we are indeed a team. I am so sorry you got treated like you did...find another doctor.

I do take lactaid when I eat ice cream, cheesecake and it does help a lot. I tried it without the lactaid and oh the pain, but I find that I will still have some bloating even with the lactaid.

Sorry all to be righting in french, nothing I haven't said before, hope nobody is offended by this.

Hi jo-joGood drs are hard to find these days. Kind of makes you wonder how and why they even become drs.Sounds like this dr was and is a waste of your time. Maybe you should ask around and see if you could find one who is more compassionate and who is willing to thoroughly check you out. Good luck.

You know, I really don't think drs will find anything wrong, even a good one. I avoid what hurts and that is the best thing for me. I think my intestines are just sensitive and nothing can help that. I went to this dr. to at least get a colonoscopy to rule out anything bad, but he doesn't want to to it because my bloodtests are all good(another dr. took the bloodtests a while back), I am a healthy person (except for ibs), don't smoke, drink very little, skinny person, eat right, ect. He says a colonoscopy will not show anything. I'm do happy to have wonderful understanding people around me, helps a lot.

La prochaine fois ca sera avec mon anglais pas terrible, terrible...Writting in french, hope nobody is offended by this
