Kidney Stones

Well, after 7 months of hell, I seem to be getting better. My case was colon cramping lower left side, lower back pain, vomiting.I have come to the conclusion it was "renal Colic" cased by kidney stones. At times I wanted to ask for morphine, this was worse than giving birth (not that I have ever done it).The colonscopy showed nothing (but it did put my mind at rest, even though it hurt).I had to go for a barium enema the other day and the prep involved two days starvation combined with laxitives and several litres of water - this realy cleaned me out.Prior to this I had been eating a half litre a day of live yogurt, combined with a magnesium/calcium supplement which was helping. They say magnesium is good for kidney stones. My GI doctor also did ultrasound to eliminate the possibility of Gallstones or ulcer.I am going back for an IVP.If you think you might have kidney stones, then drink atleast four litres of water a day. They say lots of red wine helps too!The pain comes from the stones passing along the uretha.I think my stones came from overdosing on Vit C (1000 mg per day) over 10 years.Be careful about using supplements and try to get everything you need from a good diet.It is early days, but I think I am on the right track for my own specific problem (you never know, though, things can creep up).I still intend to listen to mikes tapes as I am a strong believer in Jing and Jang.I think I will leave my body to science - they have certainly got enough pictures! What I hated the most, was being assigned a label before any tests had been done. Also being ill for along time, together without not knowing the cause was very depressing.I guess it is a process of illimination and self analysis.Lucky for me someone else will be picking up the bills (private insurance) - I feel for those who do not have access to good medical care. The UK NHS (national Health Service) is apauling. (free mediocre care, paid from our massive taxes).Everyones case is unique, this board has been a great help, just wanted to say thanks.[This message has been edited by stevel (edited 01-15-2000).]

Well Steve - good to hear things seem to be going well for you. Good that the colonoscopy showed nothing. Great news! By the way, kidney stones are purely h*ll hey? Had 'em, don't ever want another! VERY painful! Having had children and kidney stones both, I'd have to say the pain is about the same! Except no reward at the end when its a stone - *L*! I hope you continue to do well.
Hi Steve:I'm glad you're feeling better! I'm a little woozy here from being on the computer too long, so couldn't exactly understand your post. Did the doc find the kidney stones? I've never had them (as far as I know) so I know absolutely nothing about them.I'm glad things are working out for you!

Hi Steve, glad you found help. I have to agree that kidney stones are worse than giving birth!!! After 2 kids and four episodes of passing kidney stones, (each lasting about a week) I would rather have kids!
Keep up the water and the tapes, take care Jenni

I don't know if this actually works (it didn't work for my gall stones by the way) But a friend had them and used it and swears by it. She used: A cup of olive oil. A cup of lemon juice. She drank UNfiltered apple juice for 3 days and on the 4th day... Drank the above (quickly.. it IS nasty.) Then lay on the side with the trouble. ???? maybe ????? it's in a lot of organic books. ???------------------Good health to you,
