I was wondering if some of you guys could tell me what you consider to be your average length of time without going to the bathroom? Or how often you go. Also if you use any stool softeners. Not saying they help much but does anyone use them. I am also on Zelnorm, which is not doing anything. I have also been on antidepressants that did not work. Like some say to me, it's all in your head haha.

I have what I consider severe constipation. I go on average about every 4th day. However, it has gone up to 6 or 7 days sometimes. I wish I could go more often. I take 1 zelnorm and 1 Digestive Advantage IBS tablet every night. About 3 times/week, I take stool softeners, too. I also take anti-anxiety medication everyday. Actually, I feel o.k., but my bowel movements are just not as frequent as I would like.

7 to 10 days usually. It sucks. I have even waited 2 weeks, used laxatives, and had no effect for 2 days. But then I go two or three days in a row. My doctor doesn't believe me. He told me if I drink more water all my problems will be solved. Modern medicine, gotta love it.BTW- that was the only time I ever took laxatives since I don't want to become addicted and they don't seem to work for me anyway.

Well when I 1st got this 19 years ago I went like once every 3 weeks, I am now an average of 10 days, once it goes past that it turns to D. I was hearing lots of people mention 3-4 days and got worried thinking, I am alot worse then that but it is nice to see others close or same as me. I also will take laxatives and they sometimes work but the pain they bring with them is sometimes not worth it. I have been in the hospital about 5 or 6 times for this and it gets sometimes hard to breath, have any of you had this, hard to breath, hospital, vomiting and also diarrea and vomiting at the same time?

I have varied from 14 to 21 days in the past, but on current treatment I go every 7 days. Best I've ever been.Probably wont work for everyone but if it helps I take lactulose 50mg twice a day, 4 dates per day, 2 cranberry tablets per day and half a pint of orange juice.

what does this stop? gas? are you saying this makes you go more often? and if so what about cramping and vomiting? plus I can't have orange juice but that probably does not make a diff, can have other juice?

I have incredibly hard stool, very hard to pass. I rarely get diarrhea. I usually have to use a few enemas to get most of it out. I do vomit actually. It comes out of nowhere- my doctor said it's because the pressure is shifting in my torso because I'm so backed up and it propels any food straight back up and...out. I tried Zelnorm, but nothing. And now I'm back to trying MiraLax.

Oh my stool is hard also but if I go more then let's say 8 days without going it sometimes turns to diarrea, I guess my body is trying to help me get it out? 1/2 the time I get diarrea I vomit while doing it, the other vomiting comes from stupid things like laughing, crying, moving the wrong way, so any pressure to much at that time for my stomach to take. Zelnorm? I tried it and still on it but right now, for one week I have taken nothing, not a thing, montitoring how I am and putting up with it. Miralax is a laxitive right? if so they do nothing for me so no use in that
