are you talking about magnesium citrate the mineral or magnesium citrat the fizzy liquid that comes in a bottle?
magnesium citrate the mineral can help relieve constipation. we have a lot of magnesium threads on here. it's safe to take long term as long as you don't have renal problems. it didn't help me but that's me. it's worth a try.
Magnesium citrate or magnesium oxide are the commonly available over the counter magnesium capsules available at the grocery store. I do take them as a supplement with each meal to increase the chances of the resulting stool being a bit more hydrated and softer and easier to pass. I don't personally think they will work all by themselves, but they are a part of my daily constipation supplement routine. I think I was deficient in magnesium and that can lead to worsened constipation. But neither citrate nor oxide versions are easily absorbed. So, I also take a chelated magnesium supplement as well, as I've read that the chelated form is more easily absorbed. I don't think it helps at all with constipation, but I take it as a nutritional supplement for other reasons.
