I've used magnesium oxide for my constipation for two or three years now (I'm losing track!). It works very well for me. It's a stool softner by drawing water in.I buy my mag at Costco and take between 500 and 750mg a day with my breakfast (I get nauseous if I don't take it with food). The RDA is 400mg, so I'd recommend talking to your doctor before going above that. I'd start around 200mg and make sure to drink a lot of water throughout the day. As I've mentioned, I take mine in the morning, but others take it at night. If you want see more posts on magnesium, check out the Constipation board (go to the Hop To scroll bar function at the bottom of the page).
