Since i was small i have had I.B.S, only found a name for it a few years ago. Luckily now i have found ways to control it. Only now does it flare up when i'm nervous or have gone through a bout of eating the wrong foods. Mebevrine helps me control my I.B.S, just wanted to know if anybody else uses this medication and what are their comments?Sarah

Yes, i've used it. Only had IBS diagnosed 1 year. It was reasonably effective at first but I wanted to find something more lasting and that would not just treat the symptoms so I started using Aloe Vera juice and am about half way through the ibs audio programme (Hypnotherapy if you're not aware of it. If you read some of the other threads about it you will see that it is quite controversial but I have read of a few trials with Hypnotherapy that seem to have been very successful. I would urge anyone who has IBS and no ideological problems with Hypnotherapy to try it and try it sooner rather than later. I'm also aware that using Aloe Vera is probably a controversial self-treatment method but I tried it and initially it felt like a miracle cure. I had tons of energy, my stomach felt at ease and I generally felt wonderful. That has changed abit over the last 6 months or so (maybe the placebo effect. I don't know enough about it but what's wrong with a placebo if it works!) Anyway that's got away from the point a bit hasn't it. What other methods do you use to control your IBS?

Hi Sarahc18!I've been taking mebeverine (colofac) for about 3 weeks now, and it does seem to be helping me. I was initially prescribed domperidone for nausea, but that made my D even worse than it already was! The colofac was then prescribed to combat the pain and D. The combination is working best for me so far, and I'm starting to work out what my trigger foods are (anyone else have a bad reaction to onions?!?). I have read some info that claims that mebeverine is no more effective at relieving IBS symptoms than is a placebo... but then, what's wrong with a placebo if it makes you feel better?Out of interest, how do you control your IBS? Is it just mebeverine, or other things too?
