Please I am desperate. I need suggestions and advice for my 8 year son. He suffers from chronic constipation. The doctors office has not done anything for him in 3 years. Every time he has a flair up they just do the same- take X-rays of this belly and prescribe Milk of Magnesia for on week. However the constipation is always there afterwards and when he is on laxatives his stomach hurts and he gets bad D. His stool also smells really bad. Poor guy. Because he bear-downs so much I think he had some bleeding last time. I just got a call from school this morning saying his was in pain. I am a wits end. Can anyone give me some advice? I am going to try once more to see if they can send him to a specialist. Also not sure why in Winter time the symptoms get worse. Thank you so much.

Has he tried linseeds? I suffered awfully with chronic constipation from the ages of 18 months to 8 years (which has since started again with the IBS, but that's a different story) and for years nothing seemed to help, until I started on the linseeds. Apparently (I don't remember it very well) they kicked in after just a couple of hours, and for years I took 1 tbsp of seeds mashed up with a banana every day and was hugely improved. You do need to make sure you soak the seeds in water first though.Best wishes to you and your son, I really hope you can find something that helps. x

Well we went to His Pediatrician and she said that before he could be sent to a specialist he has to do another type of X-ray where he will drink a Barium drink. She said she wants to see if there could be something possible stuck inside not letting him be regular. He was put on Miralax laxative 17g everyday. We got another call today from the school. Still in pain. Now I feel guilty because I was thinking he maybe faking in order to stay home but the poor guy is crying in the restroom as I'm writing this. He's stools don't look to hard but they are definitely round and they are pasty. They look almost not fully digested. Maybe that's why its hurting him to pass that stool.
