Hello everyone, I only found this site last week and find it very comforting to know that I'm not the only one with this unresolved constipation problem. For years, I've spend thousands of dollars trying everything to no avail. I'm 41 years old and this constipation has always been part of my life. I always ate lots of fruits and vegetable (I'm semi vegetarian), chicken, fish, a bit of red meat, etc. Once in awhile I'll have a junk food feast but it's not often (once every few months). Lately I was seeing a homeopath that helped me somewhat but like everything else I've ever tried it's effect was starting to fizzle and not work anymore. He believed that my hormones was the culprit because a few days before my period and during my period I would completely shut down, nothing would work. He tried a few times to stimulate my hormones and I would completely shut down also. Anyways, I saw this article in last weeks paper about Zelnorm. It sounded terrific!! They talked about how it affects the hormones in the gut and how the results were very good with hardly any side affects. Three days ago I got a prescription and started with my first pill on Tueday night. Wednesday morning I had diarrhea! Not bad diarrhea, just once and it was over. It actually felt terrific since I hadn't gone in over 4 days. I have to mention also that this was 4 days before my period when I usually start to really shut down. The second day on Zelnorm I also had diarrhea, twice! Wow I'm amazed!!! This might be the answer to my problem. And again this is not diarrhea that I have to rush to the bathroom or else. I just feel an urge, go to the bathroom and it comes out as diarrhea. I'm writing this Friday morning, the day before my period. I feel a bit of period pains ... I know I'll be starting later tonight or tomorrow and I just had the most wonderful bowel movement!! This morning it wasn't diarrhea. It was a well formed, a bit loose still but altogether. I'm totally amazed and so excited. I think you should all do yourself a favor and try this new drug, especially if a change in diet does nothing for your constipation. I was one of the ones that if I had more fiber I would get really bad. People have told me often that if they ate like me they would go 3 times a day, no problem! By the way, another great thing about this is the bloating is just about gone. I'm a little bloated still but I think this bloating has to do with my period. I'm really excited and just had to tell everyone! I'll keep you posted.

Hi Lexi,I'm also on Zelnorm. Please let us know the amount you are taking and how long before eating you take it ... 15 mins before food or 30 mins before food, or any other time?Is there anything different you are doing since taking the med.I've been taking it but my symptoms are a lot worse, so I think I may be doing something wrong. I am also tapering off laxatives, yet I still am not having bm's.Anyway, GREAT to hear about your results ... its wonderful hearing success stories and I am sooo happy for you. Thanks for letting us know that the drug can help.

Hi again, I'm taking a 6mg pill twice daily. I take this with a glass of water a few seconds in the morning before my coffee and at night before supper. The only thing I'm doing differently is drinking coffee. I hadn't drank coffee since March since it neutralizes the homeopatic remedies. I drank coffee on Monday and Tuesday morning with no bowel movement. Only when I took my first pill on Tuesday at supper did I have a bowel movement the next morning. I hope this continues to work as well as it does forever and not wane after a few months like every other thing I've ever tried. My problem was definitely hormone related. That conclusion was reached by my homeopatic doctor. Zelnorm seems to work on the hormone that was dormant or non-active in my gut. You mention that your weaning off laxatives ... maybe your body is so used to this that it'll take awhile for the Zelnorm to take over. How long have you been taking Zelnorm? I haven't touched a laxative since I started homepoatic remedies back in March. It really helped me cause I was at the point that I didn't want to take laxatives anymore because of other problems which I thought might be related to the laxatives and I was at the point that I was giving myself enemas. The homeopatic remedies worked fairly good for me at first. I will certainly keep you posted on my progress.

Paulo, I'm getting it in Canada. It should be available in the United States shortly though. Are you going to try it when it's available? I guess it was approved back in March in Canada and my doctor (General Practioner) never advised me of this new drug. I'm glad I stumbled on this article in the newspaper or else I might've never known for months maybe even a year. Like I posted before .... so far so good for me!

My gastro doctor said he'd give it to me as soon as it was availabe. I'm hoping it will help with the gas. I've got the C under control. I might not have to go thru my routine tho with the Zelnorm. That would be nice.
