Hi everyone,I am new on this board and I just wanted to say how happy I was to find it. I think that I have had IBS for several years, but it only started to get bad last year when I suffered from severe abdominal pain for about a month. I had to take an extended leave from work and no one could figure out what was wrong with me. My doctor put me on Bentyl and I got better within a few weeks. I thought that it was the last of that pain. Well, the pain came back about a month ago...it was hell. I couldn't sleep for more than two hours at a time without waking up from the pain. My heating pad was my best friend but it did not help much (I used it so much that my stomach was burned). The Bentyl did not seem to work, so my doctor put me on something else (anti-spasmadic) Well, I was allergic to that and got a rash and hives. Then they put me on donatel which cause nausea and vomiting (since it stops the spasms your stop also stops trying to digest so you throw things up). Finally, at the point where I was begging to be admitted to the hosptial because I was in so much pain, tired from not being able to sleep and nauseated...they put me on zelnorm..THE WONDER DRUG!!!! Since then (about a month ago) I have only been getting better. Thanks for all the support on this website, it makes me feel so much better. One of the worst things about IBS is that no one can really understand how painful it can be unless they have experienced it themselves.
