Hi. I am "Japonica". Just signing up for this group has given me a sense of comfort. If you have a minute, I would like to share my personal story on how I have...well, basically, become a slave to the bathroom. Back in 1997 I was diagnosed with inflamatory bowel after experiencing diarrhea on a daily basis - sometimes three of four times a day. It was a stressful time; I had a miscarriage, my husband had lost his job, and I was working as a special ed teacher in a very high-stress setting. Also, my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer that year. I lost a lot of weight and was miserable with gas and bloating every day. To make a long story short, my condition has now reversed; I suffer from extreme constipation. When I do have a bowel movement (I have to initiate it), the pain is so great afterwards that I only want to lie down and get in a fetal position. My colon has become so long and redundant that my gastroenterologist cannot scope me. I have been approved by insurance to get the virtual colonsocopy - which I plan to do so soon. (My doctor does not think my colon can retain barium to get the barium retention x-ray.) This whole life disruption has caused me to be late for work on numerous occassions. I know this subject has probably been discussed many times (sorry to be new, and haven't had time to toally look over forums), but has anyone else lost his or her job due to being tied up in the bathroom, PRAYING to have a bowel movement and to experience some relief? The urge is there, but when I sit down it goes away. I have my knees propped up as recommended). I can use an enema, and a little relief is given, but the pain is even more severe the next 12-16 hours. (I also have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia). The pain in my stomach radiates throughout my body to my joints. Also, can anyone share an experience of the virtual colonoscopy procedure? I am very nervous about that. Something has to be done.....my job is on the line. Thank you so much for any input or responses. I have tried everything: stool softeners, high fiber the low fiber, and gluten free diets, Amatiza, hot beverages in the morning, prune juice, etc., etc., I know we are all in the same boat. I would love to here your story as well, Thank you so much for letting me share.

What disability did you get SSD under? I know you can't get it for IBS.
