Is it normal for nausea to accompany IBS? When my symptoms really act up I get gas and bloating, constipation, horrible gut cramps, and sometimes overwhelming nausea. I was just wondering if this is a normal side effect? Or is it something I should try to get checked out at the doctor's office. (And just so you know, I am NOT pregnant. I had a doctor insist that was the reason I was so sick when I knew for a fact it wasn't.)

Hi magnolia_grace, There are some meds. you can get to control nausea, Reglan comes to mind. I would not take this on daily basis, just when needed for nausea. Contact your doc. and explain that sometimes you get nausea when IBS is acting up badly. They will probably want to see you for an office visist. Good luck!

dear magnolia-grace,yes it is normal to have nausea with ibs, but its just not as common as the bowel symptoms. ive suffered with the nausea of ibs for 8 years now, the ibs came on in pregnancy. at first i thought it was just morning sickness, but it continued after i gave birth. after years of going from one specialist to another, i was finally diagnosed with ibs, nausea being my main symptom, sorry i cant give you any remedies, but i know that stress, late nights, rich foods, all exaberate my nausea. hope this makes you feel a little better, knowing that it is normal.

Hi-I have had constant nausea for almost 2 months now, accompanied by sporadic bowel movements, I never know what is going to come out! I was even hospitalized for a week of tests, and the doctors say it's just IBS. I take Zofran when needed, and it works great- it can give me a bit of a headache. I also take valium when needed. Both seem to help- good luck

I get nausea and sweating just before a d-attack. If I don't eat properly I also get nausea, any sort of motion (like travelling in cars)can set it off. I once threw up in my boyfriend's car on the motorway because I'd missed breakfast and made the mistake of drinking blackcurrent juice! When I was 16 I was shopping with my parents and suddenly felt sick, I was too embarraseed to tell them so I dived into a B+Q display shed (an empty one luckily) and vomited all over the floor. Cringe! Also, a few years ago I used to get weird nausea attacks in bed- I'd be about to fall asleep when I'd suddenly start feeling really sick and have to sit on the bathroom floor for hours. They went away when I left home, so maybe it was stress.I also find chamomile tea helps a lot.

I had persistent nausea a few years ago that even woke me up at night. Found out I had a bacterial infection of the stomach lining called h. pylori. This was discovered during an endoscopy but there is also a blood test for it. Might want to see your doc. I still will get occasional nausea which is relieved nicely by taking 2 ginger capsules that I buy from the health food store.

The last few days I have had really severe nausea. I dont know if it is the IBS or a side effect from Citalopram which I am taking with the occassional diazepam.Whatever it is the nausea is terrible.

I took Citalopram and it's what made my IBS go from C to D. It could very well be that it's the culprit causing you to be nauseated. And just like many of you, my nausea doesn't actually involve throwing up. I just hope and pray that I will so that I can feel better. I do have some pills from my doctor to help, but I don't like to take them because I don't have a refill and they work really well, so I keep them for when I feel really badly.

Are you sure you don't have vertigo? I have chronic migraines that cause vertigo. Vertigo causes nausea. You don't have to have a headache when you have vertigo. There's a brain-gut connection in all this. My chronic migraines cause my chronic C. Benadryl helps my nausea. Antivert helps nausea alot.
