Unfortunately, everything works different for everyone. You have to find out what works for you by trial and error. For example, my GI suggested that I take two Citrucel caplets in the morning and one in the evening for IBS-D. This works well for me, but I have heard other people on this board abhor Citrucel. I also take calcium (Oscal brand), take Bentyl when needed, and I take Ativan when needed for anxiety. Otherwise, I watch what and when I eat. For example, big meals trigger IBS. So, especially when out with friends, I only eat mild, bland, and small portions. It's no fun, but neither are public restrooms. Something that hasn't been mentioned too often on these boards is exercise. I find it helps me as well quite a bit.
