heya everyone!my name's Ana and i'm almost 17 years old. I have just been diagonsed with IBS (friday last week) and i wondered if any of you could help answer my question that i have..1: I've had these yukky stabby and crampy kin of pains since Friday mid-day and it is now Monday night.) They're all across my tummy and they really hurt if I don't take my medicene! How long do the pains go on for? days? weeks? months?2: Do I have to change my diet at all for my IBS? I have found out chocolate makes my tummy worse and maybe roasted stuff..3: My tummy is very tender right now. Will it always be like that?4: Once the pain has gone, it will come back again within a space of quite a few hours when my medicene wears off, is this normal?5: I don't have constipation or diarreah, but I do have trouble with 'holdin it all in', as it tends to just 'run straight through me', is that normal too?6: I'm constantly tired now and I'm sleeping up to 10-14 hours a day, is that normal or is that the medicene I'm taking? ('Merbentyl Syrup')7: Lastly, I have completely lost all my appetite since friday, but I then feel major weak, as I haven't eaten at all, but I'm just not hungry! Is that normal too?I am also a sufferer of Emetophobia which is a phobia of being sick and we have a site also. Alot of us there have IBS too..please help, i wanna get this under control!love ana xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ana, did you take your temp with a thermometer?A temp is not a sysmptom of IBS. Was this confirmed?Although it is possible for IBS to make you sweat and give you head rushes. On the information aspect, I recommend you read this site from Mayo clinic. http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?id=DS00106&si=1096 I also can recommend you read the book "First Year IBS" by one of our valuable bb members as it can help you out in understanding and dealing with IBS. You can also read some chapters online, so you know. http://www.firstyearibs.com/ http://www.firstyearibs.com/

Some things are hard to predict. Some people with IBS have symptoms ALL the time and some do not. Which you are only time will tell. The drugs do not "cure" anything, so it is expected that the symptom comes back when the pain wears off (just like taking cold medicine...it works for 4 hours and a cold lasts 7-10 days so the cold symptoms come back when the med wears off). Not sure what you mean runs right thought, but it is normal to have bowel movements after meals. This IS NOT the food you just ate, but from your colon "waking up" after the meal and pushing out the stool from 1,2,3...9 meals ago.K.
