I suffer from really bad constipation daily. And out of the blue, I get really painful cramps that last for hours before the diarhea. Any advice? I've tried all the drugs and diets - nothing helps.

Ro, I'm never constipated, so I can't help you there....Just thought I'd stop in & say hello. Welcome!

Lee,Thanks for the Hello - for awhile I thought no one noticed me.
Hi, Ro!The cramps might be gas. You could try some Gas-X maybe and see if it helps. I'm mostly "D" so can't really offer any "good" advice.By the way, its not unusual to post a question and not get an answer for a day or two. Just depends on how many people are on, and whether they have any answers.
Dear Ro, Welcome. I have IBS D but maybe you should give acidopholis with FOS a try. It helped my gas and cramping. I don't think it will constipate, which will be good for you. When you go to the health food store, make sure what you buy is refrigerated, I was told that is the only kind with the live cultures. Take care, Loretta

Hi Ro and welcome. I have the Big-C too. I used to alternate between the C and D on a bi-weekly basis until I started taking Citrucel/daily. Now I only have a D episode every once in a while, but am still mainly a C-girl. Do you take an fiber supplements? What else have you tried....details, details.

Ro, I meant "any" fiber supplements, sorry

I've tried Bentyl but It made me feel like a goof and didn't help. The specialist told me to take 6 fibercon a day - that was too expensive and when the the cramping and D came it was worse and prolonged the inevitable - Doctor just gave me Librax haven't had to use it yet. The pain when the cramping and D starts is unbearable.
my Spouse who does not have IBS has found acidophillus with FOS relly helps with constipation.

Hi: Try some mung beans steamed or raw Belgian endive (It has white leaves and yellow edges) with fresh lemon juice and a little olive oil. Plain yogurt with fresh lemon juice and honey (small amounts) with slices of pear. The above foods are great regulators for me. Also thin slices of a raw peeled green apple (granny smith type)and chew slowly and well. I also eat steamed carots, baked sweet potatos and blue lake string beans and very large frozen lima beans cooked or steamed. Hope this helps! ;()

I've had a constipation problem for as long as I can remember. I have always blamed my parents - whenever I was sick, heachache, cold, stomache ache or anything they gave me what they called a fizic (spelling unsure) which is a laxative. Anyone else have a childhood of laxatives to cure all.???

Are you trying some of the things I mentioned? Are you feeling any better?Sometimes when we let go of the past, especially the anger and the pain we can free ourselves of a lot of other things also.

Oh My Gosh Ro, a Fizic. Talk about whipping me back to my childhood. My Grammy (who watched me when my parents worked) gave me fizics all the time. I always thought that was just "her" name for a laxative. Unlike you, she would only (thankfully) help me out with one if I was constipated. And now that I look back, I really think she had IBS too, the dear woman lived on laxatives. Thanks (in a weird way) for the memory.
