I am 28 year old female. I guess I have had a senstitive stomach my entire life but only until recently has it become unbearable. I kept telling my doctor the symptoms but nothing came up in my blood work....zip for cealic and thyroid etc. But I am in undeniable pain all the time. I can no longer sleep and the stress of feeling so awful is making me so depressed. I am constantly going to the bathroom...at least 20 times a day. My symptoms range from extreme diarrhea to intense bloating, gas, and constipation. I am going to see a specialist in a few weeks (apparently some blood work indicating I have extreme inflammation came in) but for the time being - how do I cope with these symptoms? I have been taking Metamucil and gas X and maintaining a very plain and simple diet but I am losing weight fast and I have no energy. I just want to feel like I am contributing more to getting me better.

I am sorry you're feeling so bad. I know how hard it can be. I would try Imodium to slow down or stop your diarrhea. Maybe just take one pill to start with. It takes an hour or so to really work for me. If you think your contipation is too bad you may not want to try this. Only you can be the judge of that. I do better laying down when my symptoms are really bad. Maybe you could take a warm bath after you feel the D is under control. Hope some of this helps. Take care.

Hi Annie and Rick and welcome!
Your symptoms sound similar to mine - there is a lot of info here, and after years of enduring IBS, and taking lots of meds, etc. to no avail, I found out about another treatment via this BB and it has helped quite a few of us to reduce our symptoms - Take a peek at my journey and the other links below and if you have any questions, please do ask or call for more info. I came to this BB in 2000 after having IBS since 1983 - this BB was a lifesaver to me.Hope that helps and all the best to you both.Take care and again, welcome!

Thank you Marilyn and Rick. I really appreciate you both taking the time to respond. When you are all alone in a bathroom it is sometimes hard to fathom that you are not alone and that other people know what it is like.I am curious about what I can do for myself in terms of lifestyle changes. What sort of remedies are out there that will make me feel like I am holding the reins of my life again.

I did mention what has worked for many of us here on the BB on the post above to help you take control of your life and IBS - if you are interested take a peek and read the links in my signature in my post above and also check out www.ibscds.com - I did this after going through 17 years of nothing else working - wish I did it first. The good thing about this treatment is that you can use it alongside of any medication, etc. and to help ease the pain as well as regulate your motility rate. There is no cure or magic bullet for IBS, but the research has shown this to be the best treatment to break that mind-gut connection of IBS and the symptoms that go with it.All the best to you.
