About 2 1/2 years ago I went into a GI tailspin. I have been miserable for most of the time since. I have GERD and take Prilosec OTC. I used to take Nexium but grew tired of doing battle with my insurance company. It was more than one year after diagnosis that my doctor told me I have IBS. No one has ever discussed diet, preventive measures, what to expect, etc. I was better for a little while after a cholecystectomy, but I have had horrible symptoms for most of the past month. I should also add that I took a smoking cessation drug, Chantix, for about two months, and the gastric side effects were awful. I quit smoking though. I have been off of it for a month, and I expected the bloating and gas to subside. they really have not. I am trying to find a new doctor because I am not satisfied. In the meantime, will anyone suggest resources---especially about food--that I might find useful. Seems all the rules I once knew about diet--high fiber, low fat---no longer apply. I am very frustrated and confused.
