Hello,About 5 years ago, at a time with a lot of stress my IBS was acting up, but most frightening, I would wake up, about an hour after going to sleep with a very sharp pain. I would quickly go to the bathroom with severe need to go with great pain, nausea and dizziness at the same time. I would end up on the floor passed out for a moment of two. I usually had diarrhea and sometimes vomited. I would spend the next day drained with a sore abdomen. I had a series of GI test that were negative. A doctor finally put me on a combination of hyoscyamine (abdominal muscle relaxant) and nortriptaline. It eventually stopped this cycle. Now 5 years later, my IBS is intermittantly acting up and the hyoscyamine helps but last night I had my first terrifying incident of the sudden deep pain about an hour after falling asleep.I belive that vasovagal syncope is part of this due to the pain, but is it the chicken or the egg. I don't know what type of physician to start with. Psychiatry for the stress, GI for the IBS, neurology for the Syncope????I would appreciate suggestions of how to get an accurate diagnosis.Thank you.
