Hi all,I have been having a bad flare up with my IBS for the last two years after having my 3rd child and tubes tied. I really need some help here even talking to my doctor. I do not know if I would be considered as IBS-C/D or alternating. Maybe you all could let me know what you think on that too.8 years ago when I first was diagnosed with it my symptoms were as follows: intestinal cramping, bloating, gas, ugency and broken up stool. I remember being in the grocery store with my kids, standing in line to check out then having a sudden onset of severe intestial cramping and having to ditch the cart, grab the kids and find a bathroom. My stool would come out all broken up and then I would feel fine. There were also times I would suddenly feel like I was coming down with the intestinal flu and would have the above symptoms all night, only to wake up by morning feeling fine. My doctor prescribed hyoscyamine that was minty and you let dissolve under the tongue. As well as nexium for gerd. It solved the problem and I haven't had too many episodes till here recently. This time around my symptoms are as follows:I now gradually for weeks get a build up of pressure, bloating and gas on my stomach. Every so often I will run to the bathroom with intestinal cramping and a small amound of loose, broken up stool would come out. I never would feel as if I completely evacuated. After a few weeks of these symptoms i would eventually have an episode of SEVERE intestinal cramping felt all the way down my legs. I would have a huge bowel movement, Not hard or soft, normal but would come out all in one, long, curled up strand. It would just keep coming out like that and I would feel like my insides where falling out. The pain so severe at times and I thought about getting to the emergency room. After that though i would get some relief but the whole cycle would started up again. I was treated with the hyoscyamine/under the tongue and it didn't help, fiber and evetually Zelnorm which gave me severe diarreha. I went back to a specialist and went through all the testing again. Upper/Lower GI, Barium X-ray ect.. Nothing new showed up. I have been on hyoscyamine 0.325mg 1x a day, diet changes, fiber ect.. I has seemed to help some what. Except for it seems like even though my stool in soft or normal I have been straining to go to the bathroom. Recently, I have started to get intestinal cramping and have to run to the bathroom,it comes out all in one bulk or broken up. During work this happens 6x in a 8 hrs. I am also having constant pelvic cramping and lower back pain. I was checked female wise and everything came back normal there too. I have watched what I eat and am exercising. Funny thing is too even despite that I am running to the bathroom constantly. I have not been able to lose weight and have even gained a few pounds, then lose it then gain it again. Am wondering if it is not that I am bloating in my stomach. Anyways, I am getting ready to follow up with my doctor again. I don't know what else might give me relief or how to explain all this to the doctor. There are so many different symptoms and I don't know what to focus on. I was wondering what you all thought? If anybody else has the same problem and what works?Thank you!! I am getting so frustrated!!! It seems I never feel good anymore.

Another FYI. I was recently put on the Birth control Seasnale for heavy periods and the pelvic cramping. I have been on it for a month and a half. My periods have stopped but the pelvic cramping has not responded to it. So it has to be IBS related. Also I started taking Xanax-0.25mg 3x a day for the last month.

DJ, I'm with you on that. I feel like hell these days. Seems that the more I do to try to control my IBS, the worse it gets. I just briefly read your post, and, from the sound of it, you're currently not responding to medication. (Right?) I'm dealing with the same thing... mine doesn't seem to be responding to much of anything any more. I saw a gastro about a week and a half ago, and he put me on a beta blocker for the related stress/anxiety, but told me to take fiber every day. Fiber stops me up worse... even with increased water intake! I'm going back to my regular doctor tomorrow for a thyroid test, so we'll see what happens.Keep us posted on how you're doing.

No, I do not seem to be responding to any treatments.
Fiber has never helped me either! It usually makes me extra gassy and causes me to get constipated no matter what. This past year I have just been plain sickly. I had the IBS act up and seen a specialist for all kinds of testing. Showed up only IBS still. Major sinus infection problems: seen a specialist-nothing showed up. Was put on a long term antibiotics. Female problems: mood swings, heavy bleeding, spotting and cramping almost all month long- Saw a specialist-everything showed up fine. Put on Seasonale.Soon I will be seeing a Urologist for severe bladder control problems off and on even when no infection is present along with tons of UTI's in the last year and a half. Not to mention all the lower or middle backaches that could be related to any of these things. I even woke up one morning walked down the hallway, heard a crack, pulled a muscle in my RGT shoulder and couldn't turn my neck for 3-weeks!! I am anxious-worring about what is wrong with me. Depressed- because it is always something but haven't gotten anywhere running to these doctors!Alot of the symptoms can related to each other and who knows what is from what area! Just venting here! Just have really had it!!

I can relate to a lot in these posts, I too had a few days where I was C and only had small broken up BMs, and I had the leg cramps which I get almost daily. After taking MOM last night I had some huge BMs and have been in horrible pain with matching anxiety all day since. I almost went to the doctor again but I resisted as it would have been a waste of time.I also find that the more I try to control it the worse it gets and it is getting worse. I am fed up trying all different things but nothing works.I also get sinus problems and the feeling from this seems to be very much a part of what is wrong with my gut. There are very few periods in each day when I actually feel Ok, and I just have not got a clue what to do next.
