Hi everyone, I happened upon this site today whilst trying to find some information on this condition. I have been suffering now for almost a year, but am at present still undiagnosed, my Doctor however thinks that I have IBS. So I read through a few posts here (will try to read more later) and am absolutely astounded to see that most of my symptoms aren't totally unusual! I imagined I was the only person with so many different symptoms that were all completely unrelated. I am so relieved to see that most of what I feel is common. My doctory has prescribed Spasmanol for me, which I have found do absolutely nothing to alleviate my symptoms. I find it so hard some days, I have two children whom I love so dearly, and on bad days I find I am struggling to be a "Nice" Mum when I feel like my insides are being torn assunder by a blade. Does anyone else feel like this? I also know I have a round of Tests and Investigations to look forward to, how did everyone cope with this part? Sorry for rambling on too much, thank you to those who managed to read to the end

Hi alisha welcome to the BB. My Dr had a hard time diagnosing me as well.I dont think alot of Doctors even believe I.B.S is real, it took three doctors before I was diagnosed with I.B.S I've been poked and probed more times than a lab rat and now I have to go through even more test to be put on a Zelnorm study. It helps to be on the BB whenever I have a test I come here and ask if anyone has had it done, 10 times out of 10 someone has and thay can tell you what it's like.It also helps to just vent sometime. As far as kids go I have a two year old and it's not always easy for him to understand but remember kids are always forgiving you no matter what ones flaws are.Marvin

Hi You may want to read about Rome 2 criteria. The more tests that are done on people with IBS the worse that person can become. So they have come up with the Rome 2, that way without all the tests you can tell if you have IBS. You should go to the UNC Center for infomation on IBS, they have video interviews with Dr.Drossman(The best GI on IBS in my opinion) and Dr.Whitehead. www.med.unc.edu/medicine/fgidc/ I have been to the UNC Center and talked to both Doctors and I learned more about IBS in one day from them then I have from all the different Doctors here in Maine.Tim

I have had IBS for six years but have just recently gone to the doctor for a diagnosis. I always thought I was alone in my symptoms and that there was nothing I could do. The medication I am on is called Levsin (brand--Hyoscyamine). It is also an anti-spasmodic like Spasmonal. It works great for me. You might talk to your doctor about different medication options. There are so many you can choose from. The first step is admitting you have a problem and taking the time to go to the doctor for tests. I am so glad I finally realized I was not alone. I handle the tests by just remembering that they may bring me closer to feeling better. Completely understanding your problem and your body is vital to getting better. I have had those "bad" days as well. Just try to take the day easy and attempt to explain your problem to the kids. Sorry I don't have any great advice.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really do appreciate it, I'm totally lost in all this. I'll check up that web link you gave me Tim but as for the clinics, I'm in Ireland and unfortunately for me we're not as up to date as you guys across the sea are. Hopefully one day we will be.Harmony thank you for what you said, please don't apologise for having no advice, its amazing how comforting it is to just know there are others out there with the same feelings and symptoms. Thank you for taking the time to reply. And Lotronex I will ask her advice about another one, I'm on my second lot of Spasmanol now, and it's still not stopped any of the pain. Thanks again Guys Alisha
