OK, guys, we've just downloaded Microsoft Explorer (5.0) and tried to gif on it. OF COURSE I couldn't so I shifted back to my old friend, Netscape (which I STILL like better). However, could one of you post the directions for gifing in Microsoft again?? Please?? I promise to pay attention THIS time
.Kathy

Thanks Cheryl - am I lazy or what, making you do my work for me! Is it my imagination or does this seem like more work than it's worth??? I need to download something ELSE?? Netscape is sooo simple - you'd think, since Microsoft is so cutting edge, they'd get a clue! OK, so it's back to Netscape for me. (Am I lucky or what to have a choice at my fingertips
That is, until my hubby has to clear out the hard drive again to reload everything to bring up our non-functioning A drive. Sigh. It'll take a day just to download Explorer and Netscape again - (and more stress for me not being able to access my PC. Will this never end???) As someone recently asked me - wouldn't it be easier just to get another hard drive? Try telling my challenge-addicted hubby that! (He'll fix it if it's the last thing he does!)And *then* we'll get another hard drive. Thanks again, Cheryl.Kathy

Hi Kathy,No problem on the help. I do charge a small finder's fee, though.
Just kidding. I'm with you on Netscape being easier but don't tell Joe that. I think he worships Explorer and maybe even Bill Gates. (ha ha) Hope you're having a good day. It's beautiful here in Pennsylvania.Cheryl

Hey, Cheryl - I'm originally from Trenton, NJ - I've lived near Philly for longer than I can remember (I've lived in Maine for 12 years) - are you near there? Are you sure that's Microsoft? I kind of thought it was Microshaft (sorry, Joe, couldn't resist
).It's cloudy and overcast today, but I can't complain, we've had the most beautiful April I can ever remember here. In fact, everything's budding about three weeks earlier than normal! Thank the Lord for global warming (just a joke, guys, honest - but we Mainers need all the warming we can get
)Where do I send your two cents, Cheryl
?Kathy

Hi Kathy,That's funny...how did you know I only charge two cents?
I live north of Pittsburgh, closer to Ohio and Philly is closer to NJ. I went to Riverside, NJ for a friend's wedding. It's nice there too. I hope Joe has a sense of humor when he sees us talking about Microsoft.
How are you doing now that your gall bladder is out? Better?Cheryl

Hey you two, don't be picking on poor Uncle Bill. He needs the cash I send him frequently. Ha Ha!!! Kathy, did you get it to work with the instructions Cheryl bumped up? If not let me know and I'll go into more detail. You're right about Internet Explorer being more difficult to use but it is noticeably faster than Netscape. I use them both actually but the future looks bleak for Netscape since they were bought by AOL. If anyone can mess it up, it is AOL. I'm not a big fan of AOL, can you tell?Cheryl, Joe does have a sense of humor about Microsoft bashing but 70% of that finder's fee is mine. Ha Ha! Let's see....70% of 2 cents is 1.4 cents. I take Visa or Mastercard.------------------Joe

Well, I had already emailed this to Kathy, but it was still in my clipboard, so might as well paste it in right here.Welcome to progress. Microsoft decided to not let you copy the URL from the properties page anymore with the control C combo. You need to download Internet Explorer 5 Web Accessories at:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/webaccess/ie5wa.exe Install it and then when you find a graphic you want to use, right click on a blank portion of the page and select "Images List" from the choices. This will open a new window with every graphic on the page and the URL to the graphic. Right click on the link and select Copy Shortcut from the list. Then you can do the . Hope this helps.------------------JoeJoe, I haven't upgraded to IE 5 yet, but had saved your instructions for when I do. If you are going to upgrade IE and Outlook both to V 5 is there a certain order that they should be done in??

LindaB,Outlook Express comes with IE5 if you do the full download. The installation occurs at the same time for both and I had no problems with it. It takes a while to download. I think it is around 18 megs. If you do the minimum download without Outlook Express (if this option is still available) Then it won't make any difference in how you do it. Internet Explorer before Outlook Express or the other way around.------------------Joe

I don't have the faintest idea what you're talking about, but that never stopped me from inserting MY two cents. Joe, I did what you told us to do way back when we were all learning about gifs and stuff. I successfully got a cat from a gif website to this board. Then I went mad with power and started sending them to everybody I ever met. However, all I had to do was click on the righthand button , then click on "save as", and, voila', it ended up in its own little file. But-----I also have one sitting on the screen with the rest of the stuff when I first turn on the computer. You know, the whole thing comes up and there is this "hammer gif" right there with all the other icons. How did it get there? And how do I get rid of it? Furthermore, is it illegal to borrow gifs from wherever you happen to see them? Does anyone know the answer to these burning questions? By the way, I printed Joe's instructions and lost them. So much for hard copy. Pathetic. I should stick to crayons and coloring books.

tmo,The hammer gif is probably not a gif. It is probably an icon. What happens when you double click it. It might be a shortcut to a program or document. To delete, just click it so it is selected and then hit the "Delete" key. It could also be called the "Del" key. Just make sure that you don't need it before you delete it.As far as
quote:is it illegal to borrow gifs from wherever you happen to see them?
Some images are copyrighted. The author should post the copyright info if they don't want you to save it or borrow it.The "save as" after you right click just lets you save the image to a file on your computer.Hope some of this helps.------------------Joe

You guys just gave me my laff for the day.I just got a new computer and had to install IE 5.0 in order to get my mail back. I had the 2.0 version so this new one is really an improvement, but I still like Netsacpe a lil better. Altho like IE mail best. JOE:I see IE has select stationery, I tried sending it but it sends just plain white. What is the secret of sending a decorated post??Loved the joke. There's the blonde that wanted alligator shoes. She went to shoe store but they were so expensieve she couldn't afford them. The clerk that waited on her told her the only other solution would be go get them from an alligator. On the way home he passed the swamp, sure enuf she was there with a shot gun. A big alligator swam towards her, she shot him and struggled to get him ashore. As he looked he noticed 4 more alligator just as big laying there. He also heard he say. "Darn! this one don't have shoes either."
PS where do I go to upgrade Netscape??

Well since you ask... "is it illegal to borrow gifs from wherever you happen to see them?" The answer... no as long as you have permision from the site owner to link to then.But...(and you knew this was coming) it is however called "Bandwidth Stealing" and is illegal without permission as long as there are copyright and/or trademark statements made. Now if you don't know what "Bandwidth Stealing" is see, "What is bandwidth? And why should I care?" Web site at http://www.darklock.com/webguard/bandwidth.html<br[/URL] />Other links for further info:http://GreyDay.org/http://www.widowsweb.com/widows/plea.htmlWhy do I care? I am one of those starving artist that make web graphics and have them stolen and my bandwidth use is very high some months because of people linking to my work. The proper thing to do download the graphic to your hard drive and upload to your server and link to your own server.I hope this clears it up.
Sorry I didn't mean to sound like Dennis Miller on a rant. ha ha ha

Two blonde women were taking a walk and came across a set of tracks. They were standing there looking at them, trying to figure out what animal had made them. As they stood there arguing they got hit by a train.

I go out to dinner last night, go to bed when I get home and found you'd guys continued to party without me! That's what I get for having a LIFE for a change!Flubug - I forget how BIG PA is - you really live in Ohio, right
. See Charlie's post on the de-galled club for how I'm feeling - thanks for asking!!Joe - didn't someone recently ask if anybody get paid on this bb - so admit it - Brad secretly pays you under the table for your classes in Microshaft (oops, soft - sorry those darn typos
) 101, right??? I'm not sure he can afford your exhorbitant fees
!!OK, since this has also become the thread for the most recent blond joke - here goes:A blonde is terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet."I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you'll lose at least 5 pounds."When the blonde returned, she shocked the doctor by losing nearly 20 pounds."Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my instructions?" The blonde nodded. "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead that 3rd day.""From hunger, you mean?""No, from skipping."A blonde walks up to a Coke machine and puts in a coin. Out pops a coke. The blonde looks amazed and runs away to get some more coins. She returns and starts feeding the machine madly and of course the machine keeps feeding out drinks. Another person walks up behind the blonde and watches her antics for a few minutes before stopping and her and asking if someone else could have a go. The blonde spins around and shouts in her face: "Can't you see I'm winning?!""Blonde Flight School" A blonde went to a flight school, insisting she wanted to learn to fly that day. As all the planes were currently in use, the owner agreed to instruct her on how to pilot thehelicopter solo by radio. He took her out, showed her how to start it and gave her thebasics and sent her on her way. After she climbed 1000 feet, she radioed in."I'm doing great! I love it! The view is so beautiful, and I'm starting to get the hang of this."After 2000 feet, she radioed again, saying how easy it was becoming to fly. The instructor watched her climb over 3000 feet, and was beginning to worry that she hadn'tradioed in.A few minutes later, he watched in horror as she crashed about half a mile away. He ran over and pulled her from the wreckage. When he asked what happened, she said, "I don't know! Everything was going fine, but as I got higher, I was starting to get cold.I can't remember anything after I turned off the big fan."BTW, these came from my (blond) daughter!Kathy[This message has been edited by heykate (edited 04-30-99).]
