For the last nine months I have been to doctors had endless medical testing, surgery and tried numerous medications. I have done yoga, CBT and been seeing a chiropractor everyday for 4 months. I have tried diet modification and elimination.I have lost 54 pounds and my GI dr told me there is nothing else he can do for me. So off to another GI in area that started me on prednisone, creon and colestid on top of 2 mg of lotronex a day. So much medicine to still feel like hell and still have days of D...all tho not as bad as in April,May,June,July,Aug......For me I think I am just going to stop all the meds and whatever happens ...happens...I am tired and do not have the physical or mental strength left to keep fighting a battle that I can not win. My life sucks and everyday is a constant struggle with very little relief. I simply can not do it anymore.Hopefully one day someone will figure this out and be able to help people before they give up.

VickieibsdI know exactly how you feel, my doctor said hypnotherapy and acupuncture are very good for ibs, but you have to have a course to do any good and it is very expensive, i simply can not afford it. No medications, no food eliminations ever seem to really help. I also have had more than I can take, this flare up of my ibs-d has been with me since january 2009.

Vickie I understand your frustration. We all have it.However I wouldn't stop any medications til you discuss this with your Dr. Perhaps some shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Also this Dr might be open to trying something new or a new combination of things. You said yourself you are better than you were so that IS good news. I wouldn't minimize it. And think back to April,May,June,July & August.. you think you feel lousy now.... but you claim things were worse then... So I am not sure I understand the logic of giving up a course of treatment if it is helping you....???

Hi Vickie,Just dropped by quickly but your entry today caught my attention. I am sorry you feel so awful. I can relate to it as I started with ibs 4 years ago & lost 1 & a quarter stones in the first 2 or 3 weeks. I felt DESPERATE as the weight continued to drop off, I woke with diarrheoa every day & would have to run to the loo in the middle of breakfast (a rice cereal/rice milk!). I couldn't concentrate. I could only eat fish, rice, green beans little else, although I ate a full packet of dark chocolate organic rice cakes every day in the attempt to keep some weight on, I still had diarrhoea. I took immodium & codeine - not huge amounts, but even then it only delayed the inevitable. I too was trying to hold a job down. I was so uncomfortable I could sit bent forwards at my desk & used to loosen my trousers! I was off sick quite a lot & had occupational health input too! I actually prayed a lot!! Eventually I came across this study:-http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?pid=S0004-...ipt=sci_arttextIts only a pilot study of 11 people but it worked!! No doctor would take it seriously but nevertheless I tried it. I have posted elsewhere recently on this site because I was very much as desperate as you are. First of all I had a immunoglobin food intolerance test at YorkTest Laboratories, for about 113 foods. I think they are pretty accurate - trouble was I was intolerant of 40 fruit & veg & so that in eliminating them all I added others that weren't tested & was, in retrospect, allergic to those too (more tropical stuff)!Since however, I started on the arrowroot, 2 heaped teaspoon fulls, 3 times a day, everyday it has IMPROVED THINGS ENORMOUSLY!! My gut is rarely painful & bloated, the diarrheoa, although I still have a way to go, which used to be 29 out of 30 days & pretty horrific, does not dominate my life to the same extent & life is bearable again - may be only a few times a month with some uncomfortable hiccoughs but nowhere nearly as severe. The food intolerance test has been repeated recently & it has all calmed down, although still pretty restricted it is less dangerous to take a chance - I may suffer but am not out of action.I can clearly attribute the improvement to the arrowroot powder. It does need to be cooked for a few minutes in water until clear (or other liquid - I use mint tea now & make all 3 doses up in the morning & put a dose in a jam jar if away from home. I always eat it at the end of a meal so its in the stomach with the food. The encouraging thing is it is not like the drugs, it seems to have given a steady improvement over a period of time & actually normalises the bowel. I don't think this is an actual cure but I believe it is going a long way towards it. I still have to rigorously avoid foods I know I am intolerant to.Vickie, sorry this is convuluted - I joined this group for this reason, because I know how diabolical this is & I have wanted to share this to help other people as I feel I have discovered something that is so brilliant - not sure where I would be now, I had very little weight left to loose & now I have put weight back on. Thank God!All the best to you - don't give up!

I know how you feel. It's now been 3 years for me of bouncing around from doctors and specialists
When I think of how much money I've spent in the past few years, and how it's all been a waste so far, it kills me!
