can anyone recommend a knowledgable and IBS friendly Dr. in the New York City area? Are there any resources that might help me locate one?I am 25 and was diagnosed (without any real testing) as having a "spastic colon" about 8 years ago. Since then I have just been dealing with it, but this site has inspred me to 1) make sure that it is not something more serious and 2) try to improve my condition. My Fiance' is getting sick of my constant gassiness and moaning complaints about stomach pain. I need to do something before she calls the marriage off :)Any help would be much appreciated.

I went to Joel Popson in the East Village.Hippy doctor, deals with herbs, acupuncture, diet. (212)529-8497I have been recommended Joseph Sweetingat Center for Intestinal Dysfunction at Columbia.. 305-8676. I haven't been to him though.I am going to Dr. Bradley Connor for a drug trial. He's at 570-4000.Good luck!

Thanks for the great info Dogwood. I will probably go the more traditional route first, but it would be interesting to visit the hippy doctor in the village. There was a recent issue of New York Magazine about alternative medicine in NY. I found it interesting that most of the Doctors/practitioners claimed that they have had success with treating stomach ailments.
Every year New York Magazine comes out with an issue on the BEst Doctors in New York. Also if you go to Borders Bookstore (there's one at the World Trade Center and another near 59th St) they have a book on the best doctors in the New York area, with the specific thng they are supposed to be good at. Columbia/Presbyterian Hospital at 168th St has a special IBS group - I think its listed as a sub topic of one3 of the choices on the main page this Bulletin Board. Anyway, if you call the hospital they can give you the number.
