Outbreaks due to virus?

Has anyone ever experienced an outbreak of bumps on your body (legs, arms, chest, back) due to a viral infection? My dr. told me that a virus I had caused me to break out. He put me on Prenisone (sp?), 40 mg a day for 5 days and it seemed to stop and further outbreaks. It has caused some discoloration which I hope I can clear up without a dermatologist.

Some topics the people here just don't have a lot of personal experience with. This has never happened to me, personally, but I think there are a number of viruses that cause various types of rashes, bumps and outbreaks on the body. Some people I know have had kids that have had things like that, but I don't know which viruses or what treatments were used.I did have an outbreak due to a really really bad penecillin reaction (so purple you couldn't even see my port wine birth mark any more) and had to take prednisone for that. It took a couple of years to get rid of the last traces of purple under the skin. They didn't treat me for that, it just faded on its own.K.

kmottus, believe me, I understand that everyone is not knowledgeable about every topic; but, there was a time when people would acknowledge your post even if they had no info on the topic. Even the response that you just gave was helpful to some degree; you used the same meds and talked about how long it took to clear up. Maybe I'm being a bit sensitive, but when you post something, you really do expect some type of response. I see very FEW posts ignored completely, actually I saw no others.kmottus, sorry to carry on so. I really do appreciate your input.

Sorry you didn't get a reply sooner. I hadn't seen it here!I can't be of any help either, but i think getting bumps due to a virus is ok. I used to get a rash when i had a virus. I think its normal. If the doc doesn't think its a problem then you sshould be fine.GOod luck-hope you're feeling better soon.Spliff

Patty,Don't know if this helps, but my kids once broke out in these bumps, it wasn't like a rash, they were not red or itchy, just hard little bumps. The dr. said it was a virus and that they would eventually go away and they did, but it took about a month or so.PAC

My kids hogged the computer yesterday. A girl at work had somthing simaliar. She had it on her the back of her neck. When she first got it she thought it was from a xmas tree that fell on her and scraped her. So she let it go. Then it spread a little. The derm. said virus and gave her something. I don't know what it was that he gave her but it's all cleared up now. The dermatologist also said it was definitly not from the tree.

*bump* for Patty.I've been here awhile and there always, not always for any obvious reason, a few threads that have to be bumped several times before anyone responds. One of the side effects of the board being so active. Threads can slide down the page pretty quickly and sometimes things do not get as much attention as they should.K.

I hadn't seen this post either. I agree with kmottus, I've had to bump my own thread a few times to get responses sometimes. They can slide down quickly. Now, bumps like hives? I think there are many viruses that causes rashes. I have sensitive skin so I'm pretty used to bumps. LOL But yes I think a viral infection can cause rashes very easily. Hope you feel better soon!Jennifer
