overitnow, I notice you are from Victoria! So am I! I was just wondering if you would recommend a good Gastro Doctor in the city as I want to get a referral from my family doctor, but I want a good one. Also, what sort of treatments does Victoria offer it's patients? Thanks! From a fellow Victorian!

Hi, I wish I had an answer to your question; but I am not sure we are in the right city. As you may know, I have been treating this for years with a supplement. From time to time I try to find doctors who are interested in that fact, usually without success. (There is a study currently going on at Tufts University re flavonoids and brain function; but I don't know if our problem will be included...)I do see socially the doctor I had when I first moved to Victoria and have broached the problem with her. Her husband has IBS and she knows of no one particularly interested in the problem. Says it's not "sexy enough" for them. Even the Society at Vancouver General is not interested, in spite of the fact that I am not the only one to report such a success with this treatment.Sorry I can't be of more help. If you want to get together over a cup of tea sometime, drop me an e-mail and we can set something up.Best of luck.Mark

Hi again! I am pretty sure we are from the same city...Victoria, B.C.? I have lived here for about 15 years now (moved here when I was 4). I have just recently been diagnosed with IBS D type, although I had no 'in depth' procedures to rule it out. I had a urinalysis, blood work and stool testing, and that was it.I have been plauged with stomach problems since I was about 10 years old, and only now when I look back do I think I should have went in for testing a looong time ago.I don't even know if we have Gastroenterologists in Victoria, so I was just wondering if you knew of any here, or if you had a recommendation of someone who is especially good in dealing with IBS.It's nice to see another person from Victoria!

There are a few of us around. There is a LynneP who is another and VIsland from up Island and others from time to time. There are GIs here, so I am sure you will be able to get the testing done. It's just that from all we read on this Board, you pretty well know what types of approaches will be taken.Nice day today, eh?Mark

Atoosagirl .... Hi there - there's a couple of good gastro docs in town. I went to a Dr. Raine - but that was about 12 years ago - he treated me for about a year and diagnosed me with IBS. Very nice man. Very kind with a great sense of humour. Did all the pre requisite tests (ugh!) but he couldn't really help me. Just put me on some very expensive drugs. Ended up with a naturopath on Fairfield who had me on the road to recovery within 6 weeks. Well, not exactly recovery - but I was definitely 75% better. I coasted for about 8 years - better some times, bad other times. Then I met Overitnow
on this site - he got me interested in a supplement called Provex CV which I have now been taking since February and I am now 95% better! Wow - what a difference in my life it has made. I can actually go places, be places without worrying about where the next bathroom and best yet - my gut has quit hurting. Sure I still have the occasional IBS attack, but now am only taking about 20 Immodium or less a month instead of 40-60! And I am improving daily. I'm a believer in the natural route obviously through diet and naturopathic and that combination with Provex CV - can't suggest any thing better. If you're interested in getting in touch with either Overitnow or myself, please feel free to do so.

Hi Lynne! Glad to meet you!
I am interested in this Provex CV. What is it? Do you need a doctors prescription to get it?I need to do something about my health, I've been living this way too long now, it's getting frustrating.overitnow - It was a beautiful day! I hope it continues for the rest if the week, as I really like to get outside and walk when it's like this!

If you go to the GERD Board and look under messages for the last 60 days you will find two threads to Lexi_Con re Flavonoids. That lays out as best I can what Provex is, my experience with it, and why I think this works for some of us. It is a nutritional supplement developed for cardiovascular and circulatory health. It just so happens to reverse these symptoms. Having spent four years away from this, I have no expectation of ever going through these problems again.Mark
