DOES ANYONE SUFFER FROM SEVERE PAIN ON THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE? I AM 27 AND HAVE BEEN DEALING W/ THIS SINCE I WAS 7. SOMETIMES IT GETS SO BAD I CANT BREATHE I HAVE TO SIT IN A CROUCHED UP POSITION SOMETIMES UP TO 7HRS, BEFORE I CAN EVEN LAY FLAT ON A BED! I HAVE HAD EVERY TEST DONE AND NOTHING SHOWS UP. I JUST STARTED GOING TO THE DOCTOR ABOUT THIS 6YRS AGO AND WHEN I TELL THEM HOW BAD THE PAIN IS THEY THINK I AM OVERREACTING! THE ONLY THING THAT HELPS ALLIEVATE THE PAIN SOMETIMES IS DOING AN ENEMA, AND I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO CAUSE MORE TROUBLE FROM THAT IN THE LONG RUN! HELP HELP!!
JAL,I also had pain in my lower right quadrant (of my abdomen) when what they think is IBS-C started 3 months ago. Now it's moved to my upper right (as you can read in my post about Upper Right Qaudrant Pain). I had had ovarian cysts in the past, but this is far worse and they've already done 2 ultrasounds and a laparoscopy to rule out that and endo.I had a gastroscopy/endoscopy today, and nothing. they did a biopsy for H.Pylori and ,malabsorption. Have they done for this for you?Do you have IBS-C or D? you say you've had every test done, what about all the gynecological stuff (if your're female, of course, i.e. laparoscopy). All CT's w/ and without contrast? How about food allergies? Just hope you could clarify what every test was, though you may mean just that! Do you remember any significant event that coincided with its onset?
Jal, *Just a friendly cyber hint here, when you type in all caps it is commonly thought, in the cyber world, that you are shouting. Which you probably didn't want to do.
*The best thing I did for myself to manage my symptoms was to educate myself on IBS. The pain you describe sounds wicked and all too familiar. This may be due to spasms, which in IBS can happen anywhere along the GI tract from mouth to tail pipe.I assume your Doc has prescribed some sort of anti-spasmodic med like Levbid or Levsin, Bentyl, Librax etc. If not, that may help. Here is a link to a great informative site that describes IBS in simple and helpful terms. Be sure to see the "Related Diets" link at the bottom of the page: http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdgs03.htm I had pain as a primary symptom too. I am a true "gut responder" and any kind of stress, heat/cold extremes, emotional stress, regular stress, even hurrying can cause me to have pain. I have used hypnotherapy and that has greatly reduced this symptom for me. It also has helped me manage the D I had as well. Here is a link to tell you about it. (This thread is on our CBT/Anxiety/Hypnotherapy Forum which you can find down by the "Hop To:" navigator. Please visit all the forums. There is a wealth of info and help here.) http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php...c;f=11;t=000732 Many here have had some success using Calcium supplements for Diarrhea and Magnesium supplements for Constipation. Jal, Glad you found us and I strongly encourage you to read, read, read here and then post your questions. Lottsa helpful and understanding folks here.BQ
The fact that you are releived after the enema tells that you are suffering of gas. I have the same symptom although not that severe and it is lessened by an enema. Please watch what you it. I think vegetables are the culprit.
I can't believe how much info I can get on this web site. All the Dr's I have seen do not give me info like this, they don't seem to know much! The tests I have had include Barium enema, sigmoidoscopy, CT scan, series of upper&lower GI'sultra sound, all kinds of blood work, and on June 3 I am going for some test that I do not know the name of yet! I have done many journals on watching what I eat. One year I cut out salad & soda for 1yr, no difference but I have noticed diet caffeine free coke is better for me. I know I can never drink coffee or eat gassy foods like broccoli, beans, brussell sprouts and those types of things. I have IBS-C. I have no food allergies. I notice this pain comes on at all different times like sometimes I could be in the most stressful situations ever and I am fine, and sometimes I am just haveing a very relaxed week/day and it will freak out, but sometimes I am stressed and it will hurt, so I don't know it's crazy! The only meds I have tried are clidinium, dicyclomine, and bentyl, and they all did nothing. I have tried xanax and that helps a little when I am all hyped up but dosen't do much.I have also tried accupuncture. Did not a thing! When I try to tell the Dr's how much pain I can get in sometimes they just think i am embellishing. Thanks for all the advice!
Jal..I also have pain in my lower right abdomen, and sometimes same sde of my back. Many a night I sleep with a heating pad on each side of me. I know most IBSers seems to have pain on the left side...but I always did have to be different! I don't know what other advise to give, but just know you aren't alone, and you can get some great advice or just a shoulder to lean on in this BB. I wish you well.
