Does anybody ever get this? It only happens when I'm really stressed out. My IBS attack start out with major gas and bloating, then cramps, usually without a change in bowel habits, then a few days later, BAM! I have spasms either on my right or left side. They start out as a sharp, pinching pain that last just a second. Then, it will spasm in the same spot with a hard, bearing down pain lasting 2 seconds. Last night, a big one woke me from my sleep then I had them the rest of the night. Maybe every 15 minutes, maybe one every hour. I still have them today, but not as hard or frequent. I have been taking Levsin under my tongue. Still very uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Heat really doesn't help; sometimes makes it worse.

Hi Ally:I get the same thing around my period. Luckily lately they haven't been too bad, but for a while they were very painful.I really don't know what to suggest, as I usually would just stay in bed. Have you had all the tests done to see what's what? I also have diverticulosis, as well as IBS, and I know if I get particular pains that last, and stay in one spot, to get it checked out. Maybe it's time to do that?JeanG------------------Member of "The Advance Guard for the Ozone Rangers".May the "farce" be with you. JeanG

ally68You just described what I've had happen so many times I cannot count! I can never describe it to my husband and when I sit there just doubled over I don't know what to tell him except I'm in a lot of pain. It is different than my horrible menstrual cramps and sometimes the sharp pains are so severe I can't even move. Have u found anything that helps?

I've posted many times on the benefits of medicinal doses of chamomile tea for spasms. Mine used to be so bad it felt like I was carrying a kicking baby - usually they woke me up. Medicinal chamomile tea - use the equivalent of two teaspoons of tea per cup, cover cup let steep 20 minutes. Drink hot or cold.If you don't have the loose tea, use at least two teabags. I used to drink up to a quart a day of this. It stops the pain, calms the gut, and reduced inflammation.More recently I bought extract of chamomile(non alcoholic) since it is always handy and can be taken immediately. I put a dropperful in a small amount of water and drink it. My husband who has diverticulitis also gets great relief with chamomile. Are you on Lotronex? I use only 1/6th of a pill a day and it has stopped all of my nocturnal gut activity.

Hi Ally,I get those "lovely" stomach cramps, and they hurt me more than my period cramps do. I've found that drinking peppermint tea helps me. Also, I have recently started a new drug called Buscopan. I am in Australia, and we can buy it readily over the counter at the chemist's (drug store for you). I don't know if you can get it in USA. Buscopan stops my bowels cold, and then I feel much better. Maybe that might help you????Good Luck

I get a feeling in my lower abdomen that is just a tightening feeling...kind of like contractions...somewhat painful. This usually follows a period of gas and bloating. It's kind of hard to describe but when I saw your message it sounded so similar to what I experience.

I get spasms in my left side that are sometimes rythmic (meaning that they come in intervals like contractions). Sometimes they will cause me to pass gas and will start a "blowout". Other times I can have them for days. Sometimes I get spasms that can last around 2 hours after I eat. Librax will stop them but I find that for me it will also make me C, so its better for me to just ride it out if possible. Lying on my side (and sort of rolling side to side) and rubbing my lower back helps.------------------Nancy
