im wondering for all you people out there, when on youre on your period, does it worsen your ibs? what do you do to settle it down> im going through the worse pains. i dont even know if my stomach is hurting because of the period or ibs. help me

It DEFINATELY gets worse during my period! I have never had a period that didn't involve a bad "episode". I haven't found any way to ease the pain. I just down lots of immodium, eat really small meals, and try not to make any plans that will require me to be away from a bathroom for an extended period of time.

hello...yes..im in the same boat as you..i do beleave that your period makes the ibs much worse.see also.. i had back surgery in 1990 and..so i get the lower back pain also. near the tailbone.daily im in agony...if you wanna chat..email me at lptpkp###myway.comand we can chat.like today..im in much pain...and feel very hopeless.

i have debilitating, sharp, shooting rectal pain with my periods. to try to go to the bathroom, or even the smallest gas bubble movement is ike torchure. it's like a knife ripping through my rectum into my stomach. the brunt of the pain is in the lower rectum. the rest of the month isn't that bad, but when my period starts it's unbearable. i'm hoping to find someone else here with similar symptoms. i might post a message about this later. i'm desperately looking for relief. laparoscopy and colonoscopy were of no help. thanks to anyone who might have any ideas!

As Heather Van Vorous suggests(In "IBS, The First Year" ), everyone with such symptoms should also rule out Endometriosis with their gyno. I went ten years diagnosed as having IBS, and while it does exist I also have Endometriosis which contributes greatly to my pain.

mine is sooo much worse during my period.. i get diarrhea like crazy a few days before and up until the day i actually get my period. I have extremely bad cramps, back pain, u name it, i've got it.and also on the first day of my period, a few hrs after the first sign of blood... its weird.. cuz i can't go to the bathroom or pas ANY gas, so i have to pretty much eat nothing untill it goes away. it hurts like hell

I know the pains of a bad period, im dealing with it right now. It hurts so bad i can hardly to anything. i missed class today. The only thing i have found to work is to lay or sit with a heating pad. i slept with it last night and it really worked, but anything other issues i havent found help for. I saw my gyno about the pain but he told me to go to the gi doc first to rule that stuff out and he doesnt want to do a lapro if he doesnt have to.
