Hi guys... I'm new to this world of IBS, and I'm hoping someone can help me answer some questions, as my doctor seems to have given up on me. It all started about 2 months ago, when I had sudden, really bad diarhea, I was throwing up, and I fainted for no apparent reason. I stopped throwing up and passing out after one night, but since then I've had severe diarrhea alternating with constipation, the right side of my lower abdomen feels and looks swollen, and I constantly feel like I have a lump in my throat. I've been given several blood tests, an ultrasound, two CAT scans, and a colonoscopy, but everything came back normal. My doctor told me that I was just too stressed out and that if I stopped getting so stressed, the physical symptoms would go away. He's not going to do anything else for me, but I still feel terrible. And yeah, I do get stressed, but I've never experienced these symptoms from stress before. Does this sound like IBS to you? Any suggestions about other things I should be tested for, or what I could do to get some relief? I had to give up going on vacation this summer because I was so sick, and I'm starting to feel really desolate and hopeless.

It took me 3 doctors and a GI specialist to get someone to figure out I had IBS. I am currently on my 2nd GI specialist. You get alot of doctors that dont understand the condition, and because of that they push it away. Best thing to do would be find a GI Specialist in your area and have a talk with them. The good thing though is since you've done all those tests you have ruled out the other more dangerous conditions that effect the same areas.

I would suggest a visit to a psychiatrist. It was only by getting on anti-anxiety meds that my D stopped, because it was NOT IBS. It was anxiety-induced D and that is not something GIs are very good at dealing with. Good luck.
