PLEASE HELP, I AM IN NEED OF IBS TESTING INFO??

Hello everyone,It has been a while since I have posted last. I have a big question for you all. I have had IBS-D for 11 years now and I am a 26 yr old female. Anyway, I had all the tests for IBS done on me about 8 years ago in 1997, and of course they found nothing wrong. So I am going to have some new tests run. Does anyone know the list of tests that are a must for IBS? These last 8 years or so have been trial and major error of different meds, natural remedies, eating better, yoga, exercise, etc... Anyway, in the last 2 years I have quit my job because the IBS is sooo bad, I couldn't take working with it anymore, also it has always and continues to consume my life, we don't go out to eat, we don't go on vacations, or for day trips or even shopping for a whole day is a big event, we never have people over and we definitley don't go to other peoples home for dinner, My husband is soooo amazing and supportive, but most recently in the last year we wanted to have children and I just don't know if I want to bring a baby into our lives , it wouldn't be fair to a baby to have a mom who is sick all the time, and when I am having a tum attack, I can be in the bathroom for a long long time, and the cramping is so bad I can't focus on anything but being in the bathroom and trying to feel better. So we are currently undecided about having a baby with my IBS. Any way after that long story, I have decided to go to Sacramento for tests again, UC Davis Medical Center is suppose to be one of the best places to go besides San Francisco, and I only live 1 hour from UC Davis. I have been with the same Dr for the 11 years now, and he's nice and all, but he is a small town Dr. in the very small town that I live in. He says I am his most severe patient with IBS and he doesn't know how to help me, so I am off to UC Davis for additional tests. It's been 8 years since any major tests were taken, and I'm sure the technology is bette now. MY QUESTION FOR YOU IS, Does anyone have a list of the tests that absolutley should be taken for IBS. I know a while ago I saw one on these boards and can't remember who listed them, but if anyone knows what tests I should ask them for please let me know. Also I did try Lotronex a few years ago, I actually was the test case for a group in Sacramento before it became available on the market, and I did great on it, when it became available I was on it for a year, a great year, and then they took it off the market. Now I know it is back on the market, but my local Dr. doesn't want to put me back on it because he worries about the side effects that it states now. So here i am stuck!! I hate that it has taken over my life. I know only one thing for sure, that without the Lord I could not have made it through these last 11 years, and I defintley wouldn't be able to look to a future with this, as long as I know he is there to help me, I can do this, but it is still soooo hard to deal with. People our age are out at dinner parties and having camping trips together, raising families, I want these things for my husband and myself. I guess I needed to vent that out. Thanks for reading!! So if anyone has any info or advice that would be great, I'm not looking forward to paying for the tests again, but like I said 8 years is a long time for something to change. Thank you so much for your time in reading this and for sending any info.Blessings,Kim

I don't know if there is a list that works for everyone in every case.A lot depends on what your symptoms indicate may be a possible other thing you need to have ruled out. There is nothing that proves you have IBS.Things that should be done, minimally. Blood tests to check general health and for inflamation.Stool tests for parasites.Standard press around the belly feel for stuff.Next level. Must haves if something is off in the blood tests like anemia or inflamation. May be optional if you don't have other issues.Blood test for celiac (esp if anemic). May have to follow up with scope from top to take biopsies in the small intestine to verify Celiac.Scope (flex sig or colonoscopy) If you have diarrhea during the night with any sort of regular basis go for the colonoscopy with biopsies.Something new you might not have had.Breath testing for SIBO. Pimental has done some research and has a book out that has a fair amount of buzz and may be something they did not do before. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097743560...630221?n=283155 is the book that seems to be fairly readable by a lot of the people here.Things they might do if they really think something funky might be going on.Cat Scans, MRI's, UltrasoundsFairly new: Capsule endoscopy to look at the small intestine.Other things that might be in the mix depending on your situation. If you have incontinence issues, pelvic floor testing. Hi I think youre on the right track having more tests.Have you read Dr Pimentels book?It makes a lot of sense and he sounds like a fantastic Dr.After reading that I wish my daughter could go to see him,but we're not in the U.S. unfortunately. It may seem difficult but can you go to Cedars Sinai? That way you'd be starting the tests with some of the latest research. All the best Gilly
Thank you Kathleen for the information, it really helped me a lot. I made a list of tests to take to the Dr. with me. I already looked up the link for the book, I had no idea about that, it looks very promising, even though I've learned over the years not to get my hopes too high. Thank you so much for your time.Gilly: Thank you for taking the time to respond as well. I will definitley take the book to my dr. appointment, I don't know if I can do the tests at that hospital, but I'll look into it. Good luck with your daughter. Thanks again for the replys. Hey has anyone taken this breath test for the SIBO yet?
