Hey, I'm new here and I found this site from searching on google about IBS.I'm really worried about my dad. For the longest time theres always something wrong with him. He has chronic sinitis (like me) and for the past few months, its been something new.He was on pills for his prostate I believe and during that time he started having gas, CONSTANTLY. It was abnormal for him and he kept saying how weird it was. Now for the past 2-3 weeks, hes had pressure/pain in his stomach, a rippling sensation running across his stomach from time to time, feels like he has to have a bowel movement, goes to the bathroom more than usual, he gets tired easily, have a feeling of fullness and also feels bloated.I'm terrified he has colon cancer and him being the negative person he is, thinks for the worst. I keep mentioning IBS but he can't go to the doctor until Tuesday. From what I've said, do you think it can be IBS? Thanks-Mel

I am still new around here and don't know quite as much as some of the other posters but to me it sounds like it can be a number of things. Did all this start with the Prostate Meds? It could be some sort of reaction to that. I would try and stay calm and not worry too much till he can see a doctor. You are really doing everything you can for now.

It certainly sounds like it could be IBS. Th pain and symptoms of IBS are the same to more serious problems as well. The bst thing for him to do is go see a GI Specialist to rule out things like Colon Cancer etc. Push him to do it now, because it could very well be IBS, but if its cancer the earlier they catch it the better.

It is possible that it's just a side effect of one of the meds he is on however it's important he gets to a doctor just to be sure that it's nothing serious. It more than likely won't be but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I think it depends on the individual. But yes, it is a symptom of IBS that you would feel better after passing gas however I would think that a "normal" person would find the same thing. If you google Rome II guidelines for Irritable Bowel Syndrome it will bring up the symptoms they look for when trying to diagnose IBS. That being said you need quite a bit of testing done to make sure it's not something with similar symptoms.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I suggest you contact his doctor before seeking any advice from a website. When I was finally diagnosed with IBS i went to the www....com site. I got some much information from too many resources it confused me more. I finally want back to my GI doctor with a list of questions and he answered all of them. One thing he told me was that to stay away from the internet where medical advice is given and any site that is selling products. Do call your father's physician and get your dad to see him again. There could many things wrong with your father.
