I was at my new GI specialist yesterday whom I highly regard. He suggested that due to my symptoms I should be investigated for an h pylori infection. He has scheduled me for an endoscopy for this purpose. I am aware that this infection may be related to a peptic ulcer. If in fact I do have it, I know that the treatment is one of a several combinations of antibiotics. I wonder why noone has suggested that previously as I have had IBS for over 10 years now (or have been led to believe I do). Perhaps I don't have IBS and my symptomotology may be entirely due to this condition, or alternatively I may have both. Does anyone out there relate to this, and if so what was the outcome for you? Is it possible to have both conditions? All information would be greatly appreciated. FYI he has also scheduled me for a breath test for lactose intolerance. It will be very helpful to know if in fact I am lactose intolerant as I shy away from most milk products and use only lactose free milk. In either case however, if the test proves I am not intolerant I likely will be very cautious in the use of milk regardless as I think it adds to my discomfort.
