I am having a bad ibs flare up. I feel so much pressure on my bottom it's hard to sit. It also feels like I have a bladder infection but the tests were negative. Anyone else ever have that type of pressure? Or am I going crazy?

Yes, the badder pain is there many times for me. I thought I had a bladder infection initially. I don't know why that isbut others mention it too. And I get thatpain sometimes to. Only usually upon sitting...stabbing pain...like I sat on a knife...then it goes away.

Thanks to all who answered! Yes it is worse during my period. Today was the first day in two weeks that I actually could sit without that terrible feeling. The bladder spasms or whatever that is are still there but are getting less. The GI doctor gave me samples of Zelnorm. It has seemed to help somewhat. I don't know much about that drug though. Any advice?

Hello:Yes...I get that type of rectal pain/pressure while sitting when that sense "incomplete evacuation" or the IBS-C acts up. It is often followed by urinary urgency which feels much like a severe urinary infection.I went to many urologists for this; it was quite excruciating. Since I'm a guy, it was attributed to "non-bacterial prostatitis" for which I was given many, months and many courses of antibiotics over a period of several years--- although no infectious agent was ever found. This only made matters worse. None of those specialists were willing to entertain the possibility that the urinary symptoms were somehow linked to the IBS. Actually, antibiotics exacerbates the IBS, so I guess the ensuing vicious cycle would be apparent.A GP finally explained why she felt they could well be linked from the point of view of the neuromuscular system. She felt it to be stress-related. She suggested several types of exercises, tai chi, and acupuncture. This often relieves the urinary symptoms, but doesnt do all that much for the IBS itself. Perhaps because the IBS is the longer lasting syndrome in my case.I recently [October 6] began a thread on this board about non-gastrointestinal symptoms associated with IBS. You might find some of the posts on that thread of interest.I hope this link to that thread is of use. web page -Ira

Went to the Dr. on Fri.They found blood in my urine but no infection. I still have the irritated bladder and feeling of incomplete evacuation in my rectum. I go everyday so I can't really say I'm C. They are doing a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow and a kidney/bladder CT. I have previously had kidney stones but this time I have no excruciating pain. I am so scared this blood in my urine is going to be bladder cancer. My brother died a year ago this month (51 yrs) of kidney cancer. So far all my bloodwork is normal I hope that is a good sign. I'm so scared and so sick of this feeling in my rectum!!! Had a colonoscopy last year--all clear. Any ideas how to stop this feeling?
