My IBS has been worse since my Gallbladder came out about a year ago. I've always had minor difficulties, but it's gotten worse.I'm dealing with Diarrhea most of the time - often with bile mixed in (thank you gall bladder
). Occasionally I'll go constipated, but not often. Then two weeks ago I constipated up pretty good. Lots of work with little results (my husband calls it "rabbit pellets"). After 3 days, I started bulking up with fiber and started Colace (not Peri-Colace - that has a laxative). It worked after another day and things started moving. I was ok for a day or two when the diarrhea came back. After 2 or 3 days with the diarrhea, it went back to normal, then for a day or two I didn't go again. I started with the Colace again. I was drinking lots of water, eating fiber, etc. I should mention that my nerves have been jangled the last few weeks, but two weeks ago it got worse. And it got even worse last week, when my IBS went nuts. Things were quasi-normal Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesday the diarrhea came back - the same time I got really upset over the same things that have been making me upset - that issue is done now. I had it Thursday, and by Friday it seemed to be subsiding when my stress level hit 1000, and I started running again.I hated to, but sick of 4 days of the runs caused me to take a Welchol Saturday night to try and stop things, and bind up the excess bile. I was taking it daily (it also helps with Type 2 diabetes), but I had side effects and quit, except for the occasional 1 to stop the bile issues. We had to travel on Sunday, and while Sunday morning produced a small bowel movement, by Sunday afternoon I was having back pain, and was producing one or two pellets with lots of effort. It was very hot on Sunday, and I am pretty confident I didn't drink enough at first. I bloated up real big, and my pants were tight. I was nauseous. I managed to eat a small supper, and then I drank some water with lemon in it, and had a good sized bowl of watermelon. My stomach started gurgling and the bloating went down. By the next morning, I had a small movement, and then diarrhea (loaded with watermelon) an hour or two later. When we returned home yesterday, I had another very soft bowel movement. I had another one this moring, and the bloating is better this morning, but still there.I've had milder bloating since this all was happening, but it got worse last week. Some days my pants are tight. Some days I feel huge. It's not constant - I do get relief at times, but then it comes back, goes away, etc. I also swtiched off my normal breakfast to try some different things, and I think that's not helping either, so I'm going to switch back. I usually have a mini bagel with low-fat cream cheese, and an apple. I switched to the bagel with peanut butter and jelly (with added fiber) and an orange. This morning I ate a fatty pre-made frozen breakfast sandwich because I'm out of supplies, and that was a mistake - I bloated up after feeling pretty good this morning. I also haven't been eating the best because my husband had a job change, and his hours are out of whack, so I eat at odd times, and whatever is fast, so on top of eveyrthing else, that probably isn't helping either.I'm hoping things will return to as normal as possible since things have calmed down, and hope that will be soon, but understand after 2 or 3 weeks of hell, that may take time. Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes had been suggested for me, but there are so many and it's confusing what to buy, what not to buy, what doesn't work, etc. A co-worker (who had her gallbladder out) suggested Gas-X. I have a bottle at home, but it says to not take more than 2 per day, and not long term (to see the doctor if nothing improves).Any suggestions on what to buy, and dosages? They're always so vague (take 1 to 3 a day). I'm taking a vacation next Friday, and since that's about 2 weeks, I'd like to start something soon to try and make things work as good as possible while I'm away. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

funky-rat, Garden of Life has a really good probiotic called "Primal Defense". I usually use this for a month or so after I do a cleanse. When you mention the 1 to 3 per day dosage, it means you should start with 1 and move up to the 3 over time. Going from 0 to 3 all at once could make things even more uncomfortable. Other things that I use are kefir and raw kraut. With all the diarrhea you have had, I would definitely say you needed some new healthy bacteria brought in. But obviously you have noticed your stress levels seem to have almost everything to do with your flare-ups. Finding ways to manage this stress may do far more good then any diet or probiotic. You seem very caught up in bowel movements. I would suggest you think about lowering the importance of regular movements and find ways to reach a good balance with the stress you are getting. Exercise, meditation, prayer, massage... Also as a side note, I have found eating melon after meals always messing me up. Melon digests very quickly compared to almost any other food and it feels like it almost ferments while the previous foods are still trying to be digested. If I eat melon is on an empty stomach and thats the only thing I eat. Good luck on your vacation

Everyone's digestive bacterial make up is a little different, and those that try different probiotics out say that this probiotic worked for them while that probiotic that worked well for another didn't do anything for them.I know there's a guy who's a kind of probiotic specialist on these forums, I think his name was Ian. Kathleen suggested a few probiotics in a recent post. Personally I'll be first trying VSL#3, as it has something of eight different kinds of probiotics in it.
