Question about Ativan

I am not 100 percent positive on this, but can't you take this drug on an as needed basis?

That is what my prescription is for, only an as needed basis. Just to help me calm down on a road trip. Even if I don't even take any, just knowing they are there helps as well. I find the Hypno tapes are excellent as well.

If I'm only taking as needed, am I less likely to get any side effects or any at all? I DO NOT want the D side effect.

Karen, how far in the tapes are you? Did you finish?I have taken it as needed years ago and had no major side effects. These drugs really effect people indivdually though.

I would test this drug out before you go on ny road trips. I have tried ativan and every time i take it i dont' remember anythign for the rest of the day. My mom says that after taking it i become very depressedand won't stop crying. I dont' remember any of it though. its like the whole day that i took the ativan didn't exist. They also gave it to me in the hospital once and i didn't remember 4 days but according to my parents and friends i was talking and acting normal(except i was being very short tempered and cried a lot more).But on the other hand ativan has helped my mom a great deal. She only takes it on a as needed basis too.So i would try taking the pill before you have to do anyhtign too important incase you react the way i did.

spas, ativan is not narcotic. it is a tranquilizer (benzodiazapam). My son has not good side effects from it. looks depressed, spaced out. a friend of mine took it and loved it. so I guess it is unique to individual. I have never taken it so I can't give a first hand opinion. Joann
