Both of those act similarly as "sponges" in the digestive tract. There have been lots of success stories withthem. If you have started on the Questran, you might as well continue that to see if it is effective for you. There was a posting re Calcium without Magnesium that suggested some long term problems in your joints from not using both together. Since the Caltrate in question is without Magnesium, and since your doctor is onside with the Questran, that would be another good reason to stick with it.Mark

Good news! They both work. Everyone is different.I myself have been on some form of Questran for 4years.I had my gallbladder out in 97. For two years I had D. Had the colon only to find out it was clean as a whistle. So they put me on the Questran and my life is back to normal. Well as normal as can be.I have been on the Colestid tablets but its not as effective for me as the Questran powder. Also I have been on the Calcium tabs but I just had a kidney stone surgically removed. So I was advised to watch out on the calcium supplements.Keep trying the Questran. I noticed a difference in a few days. I still have D at times but it is under more control with the Questran.Good Luck!Vamplady

Jenny, a lot of people here take Questran. You can search for past discussions by using the "search" feature. It is right below the buttons at the top that say "Post New Topic" and "Post Reply." Just type "questran" into that search engine, and it will bring up all the past topics about it. My husband uses it for constant D. It has worked nearly perfectly, and it worked fast, within a day or 2. He uses 1 scoop per day in the morning. His friend at work uses 3 scoops per day in 2 divided doses (one scoop morning-2 scoops before he goes to bed). It would depend on how it's working for you. I'd try one scoop each day for a week or so. If you still have considerable D, take 2 scoops for awhile. Play around with the dosage. That is one of the nice things about the powder, you can easily adjust. Be very careful though, and do not overdo it with too much too soon, because you can possibly get stuffed up and that would be a very serious issue. Take it slowly, weekly, 1 scoop at a time, and you should be okay.Keep using it, as some of the folks here didn't get relief for a week or up to a month. If it works as well for you as it does for my husband, your life will change. It's been the greatest thing ever for my husband. Nearly zero D now.The calcium works for many people too. You can also search that topic with the search engine. A lady named Linda is helpful to people wanting to try the calcium, and she offers many helpful suggestions that you can find by reading the old posts.Good luck to you.

I take one scoop a day. In the morning but I may be adding a second one in the night. I seem to have most of my troubles in the a.m. but as soon as I take the Questran my gut settles down and I have no troubles all day.

Has anyone else experienced heartburn with the questran? I'd not ever had heartburn before - but it happened while on the questran. And, since I'm not real fond of taking meds - I didn't want to then add heartburn meds - so I went back to immodium. Any comments or helpful info on that issue? THANKS!!!!

Yes. I do get heartburn. But I find if I eat it with a meal(take mine in applesauce) I don't seem to get as much heartburn or upset stomache. My mother in law is a nurse. She advised me to do this to minimize the symptoms.
