I sometimes have ribbon shaped stools and I think it happens when the back passage contracts strongly and the stools are forced out flat and long shaped

No holding back there zig !!Wouldn't it have been a little kinder to say that this type of stool should have further investigations ???

I have the thin stools from time to time. I had mentioned this to the doc. His first response was, well you're too young for colon cancer (not sure whether that was reassuring or not!).But he told me it's more of an all or nothing deal. You don't go from having good regular stools on the first BM to narrow ones on your second BM (I usually have two every morning).I think what he tried to get across was that if they were ALWAYS narrow it might warrant further investigation.
