A drug frequently used for bipolar patients put an end to my IBS for over a year. Risperdal. It also caused me to feel suicidal, and when I asked my doctor about the connection, she denied there was any. So I took myself off the Risperdal, and the horrible thoughts stopped and haven't come back. Unfortunately, IBS is back with a vengeance. Anybody else tried Risperdal? Any side effects?

Mary,Can't say I've tried this or even heard of antipsychotics being used to treat IBS before. I know a few are used sometimes to treat anxiety and, as you mentioned, bipolar disorder. I did try Seroquel at one point, which I found to be a great sleeping pill but it did nothing for my anxiety or underlying IBS symptoms.
Mary,That is an amazing story, I also believe that the root cause of my IBS symptoms also profoundly affects a great deal of other things.Hi JJ.
