Lori,Do you mean that you pooped better today with or without your meds? I eat a little romaine lettuce with alfalfa everyday and seem to be ok for me. What kind of salad did you eat? I will send you a private message in a little while. Glad to hear you pooped really good, I know how great that feels !!!Blessings YSIC,Abi

Hi Lorilou, I know that you've had some inquiries about gluten, so I'm writing this to look at a different side of the salad. If salad is causing any of your problems, then consider looking at what you are putting on your salad before ruling out this dish. Many dressings contain wheat. Also, the amount of sugar or additives in the dressings could cause some problems. Do you use croutons? - wheat. And was there any seasonings on the chicken? If yes, check to see if these seasonings were a source of wheat or maybe MSG (which causes problems for some). Yes, I really recommend a food journal to see if there are any connections - don't rule out sugar, certain carbs, and sugar substitutes as these cause problems for some. Some find an olive oil/vinegar dressing very tolerable, but then again what works for one may not work for others.Good luck and keep working on it. I know keeping a food journal can be a bit tedious, but it might give some great insight.

Sorry - the olive oil/vinegar dressing I meant is using some oil from a bottle of olive oil and some vinegar from a bottle of vinegar (rice or red wine or others but NOT malt if trying to avoid gluten). You could always add some basil and black pepper to spice it up.

its so confusing.. yesteday when I pooped realy good, I had had the day before a gypro- on the bread and then at dinner had beef over wheat noodles...there is carbs and wheat.. Im doing good aagain today and last night I had steak and a salad with caesar dressing, and garlic bread- more carbs and red meat even... I swear it is affected by my female hormones and where I am in my cycle. Its horrid at ovulation time- maybe I have a food issue and a hormone issue- Just gonna keep praying and let the Lord take care of it all- it can make ya nuts if ya don't!!!

you're right, Lorilou--ibs is confusing and so frustrating. I wish I could figure it out but it keeps defying me. of course, everybody's different but try as I might, I've never been able to find a food link or much of an anything link. it's just plain bad most of the time, sometimes more than others for no apparent reason. but yes, mine is (usually) also affected by female hormones--usually much worse right before my period (pms time) and I think perimenopause has made it worse too. and oh, yes, I usually eat salad every day-love the dole's spring mix--and carrots, cauliflower, onions etc in it (no dressing) and have not found that it affects my c either way.

I've seen a fair number of lists of MSG sensitivity, can't recall ever seeing constipation. Here is a list of MSG symptoms that are the usual ones
quote:Symptoms may include one or more of the following: burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms, and chest;numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and back; tingling, warmth and weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms; facial pressure or tightness; chest pain; headache; nausea; rapid heartbeat; bronchospasm (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with asthma; drowsiness; and weakness.
Given a lot of these tend to be allergic type of symptoms that would indicate if anything it would be more likely to cause diarrhea as histamine makes you go, it doesn't stop you up.K.

Salad can make me gassy and bloat. But it's not always the case. For me, it seems to be about finding a healthy balance in my diet. But I have a large salad at times and even a few times a day, which I'm now suspecting might be the culprit. But I was doing it because I thought the lettuce had fiber which would help me go better. Silly me.
