This may sound weird but has anybody else experienced this...I am a computer engineering and consequently I sit in front of these darn computer screens on a daily basis. Lately (the past few months) I have noticed that sitting seems to irritate my IBS symptoms. When I spend several hours at my computer I end up with a stomach that feels like I did 1,000 situps and my gas pains kick in bit time! However, when I consiuosly take breaks and limit my time behind the screen it seems to feel better. In fact, when I force myself to take break and to not sit balled up behind that darn things my symptoms slack up quite a bit. Just thought I would ask.BTW, I just found this group a few months back and ,like others, I think its great.

eloomis: Even without IBS its good to get up and stretch etc after sitting awhile. Actually, a long time ago I read that a person sitting at a computer for forty minutes should take a twenty minute break. Wouldnt the bosses LOVE that? When I first started working with computers about 12 years ago I used to have the worst chest pain or GERD especially after lunch but since I needed the job I would dismiss it. (Was that one of the symptoms of IBS I was ignoring?) I got diagnosed about 5 weeks ago at age 61.75 for the first time. I hope I have not ignored your post and in fact that I did respond to you. In other words be kind to yourself: take breaks, stretch, and feel good. belle

eloomis: I'm finding that my lower left abdominal pain is triggered by sitting. I'm still trying to get it properly diagnosed but I suspect that its related to colon spasms. The pain seems to be some type of acute inflammation but its gotten to the point that I can't work (driving a car isn't fun either). I develop s/w too but it's rather difficult to do while standing up. My wife is out getting me one of those chairs that you sort of kneel in this very minute. If it works I'll try it at work while I'm waiting to get to the bottom of this.
