I am suffering with chronic I.B.S.D for about the last 15 years. My symptoms are almost daily D attacks lasting several hours with intense pain. I haven't worked for 18 months and I am having a difficult time finding employment do to the severity of my I.B.S. My meds now are: Amitriptyline 75mg Citalopram 20mg Lopermamide lots My question is am I entitled to Social Security Disablity?

I am going to give you some websites that might help, but also may be disappointing. I am also on an MS Board similar to this one and people there complain all the time because it is to hard to get even for people with disabling diseases like MS. Whatever you do DON'T tell them you have IBS. You WON'T get disability from them. I've been on disability for 6 years. I suffered from severe IBS D. I went from doctor to doctor and IBS (no matter how bad it was) was no excuse not to work. I ended up getting fired from every job I had because I would cry all the time. So finally (after a LONG fight) I got a note from my doctor saying I needed "Income Assistance" because I could not keep a job due to severe depression, and gastrointestinal distress. I had to keep going back (every 2 months) for 2 years before I got disability. The first 2 years was a "temporary leave of absense due to medical problems".Getting disability is REALLY hard if you have IBS. In my case I would get fired from every jon within the first month. I couldn't function.If you've had IBS for 18 years and have worked, chances are they're not going to give you disability without a REALLY good reason. Chronic D, nausea, or pain, is not good enough for them.Have a nervous breakdown. It's really the only way.

PS. I live in Canada (Vancouver), so it may be different where you are.

By the way. I forgot to add that there are different levels of disability. You start at the lowest and work up (level 3 being in need of a nurse or help doing things - like if you were in a wheelchair).Keep going to the docs (every week if you can), get as many prescriptions as you can afford, and don't give up. As soon as you stop going to the doc, it weakens your case.Think of it similar to a car accident. You don't get anything if you "claim" to be hurt then not go a doctors. SS is similar to that when it comes to IBS. It's just not accepted as a disabling condition in their eyes. Take immodium. Problem solved.
