Is bloody mucous a part of IBS? I've experienced narrow stools and mucous in my stools for a year now. Only occasionally do I have a normal BM. When they're not normal, I have many, many small soft or hard stools in a day, and never evacuate completely. I'd say over the past year, I've had maybe 15 normal BM's. Sometimes I have a lot of mucous and sometimes mucous with bright blood mixed in. I never had to strain. I've also experienced bowel incontinence at times, sometimes as much as 6-8 times a day. I have NO ABDOMINAL PAIN, and no diarrhea. Does this sound like IBS? I really appreciate any responses. Thanks!Melly

It sounds very much like IBS, but I recommend quite strongly, that you talk to a doctor. It can be rather embarrassing to do, but is very important. Let them run their tests to rule out anything else.christine

Hi Melly.Yes, I agree with Chrisseese you should go to your doctor. Everyone here has gone to the doctor at one time or other to understand what they had, and then came back here to investigate more. Everyone is very helpful on the board, but we are not doctors and it is important to get medical help too.I hope your doctor is sympathetic. Just to let you know, melly, I have almost the EXACT same symtoms as you - narrow stools, blood, mucous but no pain, etc. One doctor said it was IBS and one said it was colitis. But, I don't think it's the later because I don't suffer from D very often - just in stressful situations. I'm going to a new specialist next month to check it all out again. I will let you know what he tells me. However, don't be afraid to see a doctor. It's good for the peace of mind. And the tests really aren't that bad. good luck.

You have to find out where the blood is coming from. Whether it is a fissure or hemmroid of some kind. It is very important to pinpoint the cause of the blood, it could mean that something more is going on.
