Finally, after 15months since application and 2 years since I've been able to work, I have been officially informed that I have been approved for permanent SS Disability!!! Sadly, that's faster than most. It turns out that besides having my lawyer request my Hearing to be expidited, my writing to my congresswoman and senator was a brilliant idea. I was sent the copy of a letter sent to them about the decision so I know they had followed through (I plan to thank them!). My lawyer said he still has cancer patients waiting. So remember to do this. Although I also have great challenges from Rheumatoid Arthritis, the most difficult work-related symptom of both that and IBS is the unpredictability, of my severe diarrhea and the fatigue from both conditions & my RA Rx. My records and documents from my specialists as well as my primary physician supported my claim. Of course, it helps that I've worked for 40years (although due to long, severe illnesses, some now cured by surgery it was parttime) and am now only 6years away from full SS benefits anyway. Also helpful from the beginning, is that I didn't miss any deadlines and got a lawyer. At the Hearing, his file of my records was nearly 12in high and he seemed to have it all memorized! At the Hearing, the subpoened Vocational Expert was also well-prepared about my jobs and what is demanded in all other jobs and his answer to the judge was that he considers me unemployable. After reviewing everything, the Judge has just informed me he agrees with all of us.It may still be a month or more before I get my info packet and start receiving my checks. Luckily, our home foreclosure will be "on hold" while bankruptcy filing is in process (due to severe income drop from husband's decreased and my not working +increased Rx and medical bills), so by the time the bank kicks us out, my checks should start and will be just enough to pay rent for a small apt....(big sigh of relief). So, good luck to all of you who are starting this process. It's not easy, but do not give up!
