Finally, after 15months since application and 2 years since I've been able to work, I have been officially informed that I have been approved for permanent SS Disability!!! Sadly, that's faster than most. It turns out that besides having my lawyer request my Hearing to be expidited, my writing to my congresswoman and senator was a brilliant idea. I was sent the copy of a letter sent to them about the decision so I know they had followed through (I plan to thank them!). My lawyer said he still has cancer patients waiting. So remember to do this. Although I also have great challenges from Rheumatoid Arthritis, the most difficult work-related symptom of both that and IBS is the unpredictability, of my severe diarrhea and the fatigue from both conditions & my RA Rx. My records and documents from my specialists as well as my primary physician supported my claim. Of course, it helps that I've worked for 40years (although due to long, severe illnesses, some now cured by surgery it was parttime) and am now only 6years away from full SS benefits anyway. Also helpful from the beginning, is that I didn't miss any deadlines and got a lawyer. At the Hearing, his file of my records was nearly 12in high and he seemed to have it all memorized! At the Hearing, the subpoened Vocational Expert was also well-prepared about my jobs and what is demanded in all other jobs and his answer to the judge was that he considers me unemployable. After reviewing everything, the Judge has just informed me he agrees with all of us.It may still be a month or more before I get my info packet and start receiving my checks. Luckily, our home foreclosure will be "on hold" while bankruptcy filing is in process (due to severe income drop from husband's decreased and my not working +increased Rx and medical bills), so by the time the bank kicks us out, my checks should start and will be just enough to pay rent for a small apt....(big sigh of relief). So, good luck to all of you who are starting this process. It's not easy, but do not give up!

I am SO HAPPY for you!! You must feel so relieved!!I applied for SS Disability in June of 2009, I hired a disability attorney immediately. I have a wonderful and very helpful doctor who supports me 100%. You have given me hope! I have already been denied once, my attorney sent in our appeal, so now I wait. I also have another health issue beside my severe IBS-D, I have degenerative disk disease in my lumbar spine and arthritis in my spine from two herniated disks, the disks are no longer there so it is now bone-on-bone, so besides my being unable to hold down a job due to my IBS, I am unable to do jobs due to my back pain. The fatigue I have is off the charts and I am even unable to do my favorite hobbies any more. I will talk to my attorney about what you said about contacting our congressman and senator.......as I am not quite sure how I would go about doing that, but that is a very good idea and so glad for your info about all of this. My health issues have been so severe that I may be facing losing my apartment (altho the county has been helping me out with rent now) and I may not have a place to live (no family left and I am single), as I have been unable to work so no income, except very sporadic part time work here and there. I have tried so many jobs but I always get fired from missing too much work, and just in the past year and a half I have not been able to hold down a job for longer than maybe 4 weeks, and these have all been part time jobs.I was so glad you posted this! I was having a rough weekend and ended up in the ER again with my symptoms being worse.Again, I'm so happy for you!!~Renee
