Hello, first time poster..long time lurker..Of course I have been diagnosed with IBS over 2 years ago now...but I don't really have diarrhea or constipation, most all of the time my bowel movements are normalish...though I can have 2 sometimes 3 or more a day. I regularly just have bad stomach pain & or nausea that does not change after a bowel movement. In fact I routinely try to go in hopes that it will make the pain go away...but that never does it. In fact for the past 3 days now I have had ongoing lower stomach pain. When I go to sleep..if I'm not awakened by stomach pain during the night..when I do wake in the morning, it's always the same stomach pain that greets me. I have had all the tests and scans, mri & such that one could have.. minus a stool sample. Everything has come back normal. I've been prescribed all the usual IBS drugs & tried natural things...tried eliminating different foods and such. The tests for celiac & lactose all came back normal. Been to a Motility Specialist (175 miles from home) as well as two separate GI doctors..the Specialist told me that the GI doctors have already given me all the tests that he would have given me so there was nothing much else he could really offer me help wise other than telling me to double up on Omeperazole..which I have since stopped taking all together as I came to think I was just being unnecessarily over medicated & it was not helping me. So I currently exist on Dicyclomine for the stomach pain & 2 other pills ment for nausea. Along with the antidepresant Imipramine 50mg...none of it seems to be helping me much anymore. The only thing I can think to try is stepping up the antidepressant to 100mg as the GI told me a long time ago that I could take up to 150mg which is 3 tablets if one was not working. Thing is about a year ago I was taking 150mg worth..I stopped taking them all together because they were making me over eat & I was thus gaining weight like wildfire. I have tried other antidepressants & they had the same results for me..just kept packing on the pounds..and that is something I can't afford to do beings I'm already way overweight & constantly trying to loose weight by riding bike...which is becoming harder for me to do, as I'm getting slower & slower when riding due to my weight increasing. I have not ridden bike for the past 4 days..mainly because of this latest bout of continuous stomach pain. I also drink lots of pepto bismuth..not sure it really helps either but it's the only thing that's readily available & simple to try. Does this all sound like something familiar to anyone here? Anybody like me?..pain not being relieved by bowel movements? Oh almost forgot...does anyone else scrunch up a pillow and lay down on it to put pressure on where your lower stomach hurts? I do this often as it seems to hurt but in a somewhat good way. I should mention I also always seem to be bloated in my upper abdomen as well.

Nobody? I recently had about a week with no pain or nausea symptoms remarkable as it seems. But now as of yesterday the bloated pressure in my upper abdomen & stomach discomfort has returned. I should mention also that over the past 6-8 months even when I don't feel the pressure, my upper abdomen sticks out & is hard. It has become such a problem that I can no longer fit in most booths at restaurants. I have actually lost about 8 lbs recently..but I look fatter & feel fatter than ever because of my upper stomach protruding like it is.

Gee Whiz!

Sounds like you have been through the wringer. Well, your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I had a lot of stabbing pains around my entire abdomen, bloating to the max, difficulties with the bathroom, nausea, vomiting and excessive burping. Here are some tips:

1: see a naturopath- they know way more about gut health than any of the GI people I have seen, especially when theres nothing that GI can see is wrong. Investigate SIBO, you might have it and it could be causing some of your issues.

2: Get yourself some VSL #3 - Its a strong probiotic, take 2-4 in the morning and 2-4 at night

3: Try the Low FODMAPS diet- I have seen huge improvements in pain control

4: Eat your meals slowly and in smaller portions, 4-5 meals per day- Breakfast, Mid-morning snack, Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner. This way there is less to digest at a time

5: Stay away from too much fat at first- fatty meals can be hard to digest and cause issues at first

Weight loss might even result from this. Trying to eat balanced meals and planning them out helps a lot. Eat breakfast at home and if you go to a job, pack some cucumbers and carrots for a snack, plan a lunch that focuses on whole gluten free grains like rice or quinoa topped with something like tofu that's been marinated or "Quorn" chicken patty's - they aren't real meat. A meat heavy diet can lead to constipation and we don't want that so reduce on the meat and dairy, up the veggies, grains and plant proteins and you'll be golden! Some fruits can be good, some can really hurt so check the FODMAPS chart on whats good and whats not and listen to what your gut tells you.

Good luck, try to meditate and avoid stressing out too much, and I believe in you!
