Has anyone been helped by stool softeners? I don't do well with Miralax but I'm a little cautious that a softener might cause stomach cramps & trigger vasovagal syncope. I've suffered with IBS-C for approx 40 yrs. & have fissures & sometimes hemorrhoids. Until I get constipation under control I can't have any surgical procedure to repair my problems. About the time I think I'm healing I tear myself again in spite of lubricants & prune juice every day. Thanks.

A plain stool softener...one without a laxative agent in it... should not cause any cramping whatsoever.
Miralax could work for you, it depends on the dosage. It is an osmotic so it is not habit forming nor will it injure the colon.You can take it any time of day or night and try different dosages.Sometimes it works for me, like at night, I will take 2 heaping capfuls dissolved in 3 glasses of -currently, Powerade Zero. The key is to dissolve it in lots and lots of liquid.
