Stoool softeners can have laxatives in them. Just be sure to buy the plain stool softener. the only ingredient should be ducosate sodium. It could take a day to start working. If after 24 hours 1 doesn't work, try taking 2 a day. I don't think this would be harmful, but you may want to double check with your gastro before uppihng I don't think it's off the wall to get worked up over going to the bathroom of you have issues with it. Finding a routine that works for you will lessen the anxiety considerably, and I'm personally still working hard to find one for myself that doesn't include laxatives. It's very difficult and I'm starting to think that I won't achieve my "ideal" situation. Sometimes I'm not going to go or be uncomfortable. the important thing is to try and live my life anyway. It's been hard to do that since coming off using sorbitol for almost 2 years and going every day, sometimes 2x a day, with no feeling of incomplete evacuation. that't the toughest sensation to have to deal with (for me). However, the sorbitol gave me pretty bad pain periodically, so it had to go.Dana
