I have suffered from IBS-D for several years and have tried all kinds of treatments. I've watched my diet, taken meds (Bentyl, Immodiumetc.) with no success. I was so excited about lotronex and thought that would be my answer. Sadly, I had a terrible reaction to it, cramps (which I expected from reading the posts here) but then I on the third day of taking it I got such severe diarrhea that it caused bleeding from the anus. I decided to try another regimen. I startedtaking one Lomotil after breakfast and thena heaping tablespoon of Metamucil in the afternoon. Wow. It worked like magic. I have had only one or two BMs a day and they were not loose at all. No cramps but a little gas. (small price to pay) This has been going on for a month! I just can't believe it yet.I am leaving for a ten day trip to New York on Monday armed with my Lomotil, Metamucil and Immodium. Wish me luck!!

Good Luck, and have a great trip. The fiber really helps, I've noticed that too. It sounds like you've come far. Check out some of the old posts on hypnotherapy, it has been very successful for many of us that have suffered for years.

Wow - that sounds great. I am on Lotronex and am hoping for a miracle! The D is pretty much gone but the pain isn't. What is Lomotil? Is it a prescription drug? I have been taking fiber for years and it helps bulk up the stool - I couldn't live without it. I take Fibercon - I don't know if it's the best kind to take for this. My Dr just said totake fiber.Good luck to you!

Auburn, Lomotil is a perscription drug. It is similar to Immodium but stronger. I have been told that Metamucil is better for me and so far, it seems to be doing the job.Good luck to you!!
