Hi,Can I ask how long you have suffered with ibs-d? I don't really know what to say to you without making you feel terrible really. Honestly, I think depending on your symptoms and how bad you suffer with diarrhea everyday would make a difference to the answer. For me I had major problems holding down a 9-5 shop job working behing the counter when things were at their worst. It wasn't stressful, good hours, lunchbreak, 40 hours per week and I couldn't deal with it when I had diarrhea all day. After a few years of it, I realised that I had to rethink my dreams for the future so I decided to give up all ideas of university and a good job - I had to change the goalposts to something more realistic. I'm still in a very low paid shop job and bored to death but the hours were a little shorter and I have access to toilet all day long. You may have totally different symptoms to me so it might be ok for you to manage it. I don't know how things would work in that situation and whether you would be able to keep nipping out to go to the toilet if in the middle of surgery. It's very awkward for me to nip off when i have a shop full of customers but I do it, so anything is possible.
